2013 CX-5 GX MT
2013 6MT with 230 km. I’ve owned since new. No work has been done other than regular maintenance and one ignition coil. Oil changes always at 5k.
On cold starts, after the high idle has dropped, there is a dieselly ticking noise that goes away after 1-2 minutes. I don’t drive until it’s stopped. Increasing rpm’s to 12-1500 stopped the noise but I’ve only recently tried that to try to narrow down the issue. I have recently noticed a fuel smell, but only a couple of times.
It’s been going on for more than a year, and doesn’t affect performance (that I’ve noticed), but it is getting worse over time.
Theories include high pressure fuel pump, injectors, cam phasers. I don’t want to leave it at the shop for a week so they can start it every day til they figure it out, so if anyone has any ideas or suggestions it would be appreciated.
If any components are near their usual end of life we’re happy to change them proactively.
Thank you

Assuming the car has been kept maintained per the owners manual. Im all for proactive preventative maintenance but if you don't have any codes and if you don't see a bunch of metal in your oil or oil filter i honestly would just keep driving the car and take it as a quirk of the engine. If you want to be sure get an oil analysis done at your next change to give you some peace of mind. People have talked at length on this forum about switching from 0w-20 to 5w-30 to quiet the valve train, so that may help to.
