Mazda 3 GS Sport 2012
Hey all, I was wondering if a Canadian boy can get some advice on my recent purchase. I know i should probably be hanging out in the Canadian thread but i'd like to get more opinions on my situation.

I recently ordered my 2012 M3 hatch (in Canada its called the "sport") with one the last 2.5's instead of the Sky-active (wasn't a huge fan of the sky-active, kinda had an rx-8 vibe if the rx-8 wore a dress on weekends, and is essentially a de-tuned version of the new Ford Focus 2.0 power plant).
Anyways, dealer is offering me extended warranty for $1400 for two extra years on the bumper-to-bumper, bringing it to 5 years total. He is offering to throw in free rust-proofing for life (10yrs) with that. Here in Montreal, rust proofing is a must on a yearly basis and would cost me around 70$ per year so its not a huge incentive, BUT most places drill holes in the car and I don't want to have to deal with Mazda on this "fuzzy" issue of voiding my warranty with a swiss-cheezed underbody.

Anyways, any thoughts on the extented warranty, is it worth it? Power train is already covered for 5 years, and i've read a lot of threads describing what these warranties don't cover and i'm really not impressed.

thoughts?

I personally don't think either the extended warranty or the rust proofing are worth the extra cost. I drive through the salt and all that crap in the winter and after 3 winters there isn't any noticeable signs of rust on the underside of my car. If I was really concerned about it I would get under the car and hit a couple spots with rust-o-leum.

i purchased my 2011 3 sport gt from MAZDA GABRIEL on St jacques and i got a 6 year total bumper to bumper warranty but with added mileage (up to 160,000 km) for i beleive 1725 and added for 1400$ replacement insurance as well as i paid 300$ for the lifetime rust proofing.

Reason why i went with everything is...well its good to be covered for longer if you have a finance for 60 to 84 months (depending on what you choose) and for the replacement insurance, during those 6 years i chose for the coverage, if the car is totaled, i get FULL value of what i originally paid for the vehicle, regardless of age (up to 6 years) and i can swtich insurance compaines as many times as i need to.

on a NEW car this is possible with insurance compaines, once you swtich providors, your car isnt consifered to be new anymore and therefore, coverage ends...PLUS...most insurance only offer it up to 3 years....where as with mazda its 6 years. (term i chose to match my finance term)

and for the rustproofing...covered under waranty. only 300$ lol speaks for itself.

interesting information. thanks! i got replacement insurance from my insurance co for an incredible deal with my house bundle, so i'm not really looking for that... my only concern is the long list of "bumper to bumper" items that are not included in the extended warranty...

If you take care of your car you will never use the extended warranty. Then half the stuff that does go wrong with the car wont be covered anyways.

Hi there,

I am in the same position as you and so Iam wondering what you decided to go with. Can you share your eperience please? Did you purchased the extended warranty and have you encountered any issues with the car?
In my case, I am getting a certified Mazda 2010 GX with 78K KM and the dealer wants to sell me the rustproofing for 350$ and extended warranty for 3 years for 1800$.
Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks !
