2010 to 2007

would a 2010 speed 3 motor fit in a 2007 speed? as my #1 piston exploded and knocked a baseball size hole in the side of the engine and this so far is the only motor i can find?

Slightly off topic, but why did your engine pop? Looks like you were monitoring A/F and boost. Did you miss a shift, like hit 3rd instead of 5th and over rev, or what? Notice you are showing Hypertech tune in your sig. I think you are the first pop on HT tune. Were you running the proper flash for your intake, or experimenting to try to get a little leaner A/F ratio? Maybe running the turbo back for a long time on stock tune (with big boost spikes) and going HT too late in the game to tame that? Just curious as to why the piston and rod let go. Any insight?

And regarding the swap, I think you might encounter some issues if you try to to a complete swap. I know the ECU's are different and there may be some electrical and electronic issues if you just try to drop the complete engine in. I would think that you might want to just go with the "long block" (block, cylinder head, manifolds, covers, etc.) on the 2010 and keep all of your old accessories and electronics.

I would hold out till you can find a proper gen1 motor, 2nd gen as MS mentioned is different in many "electronic" aspects. Wouldn't want to blow a second motor would ya.?

well ive been running all the mods below w/ the tune for bout 6 months w/ no problems i did find this in my searches after this happened http://**************************/f...disi-turbo-blown-engine-resource-thread-6113/.... looks like im not the only one that's had this prob

Plenty of people have blown, but where did you see that they were running hypertech on that thread. Most of those guys were using ap. That was the point he was making

Yes. Pops on HT tune was a big part of my question. Why did you pop? Do you know? Your user name suggests that you know a LOT about our platform. No offense, but you might want to rethink that name. We all have had issues from time to time as we learn about this car, but your posts in various threads suggest more than usual problems with your engine. Maybe someone on the engine assembly line just had a bad day when yours was being built. Here in the Deep South, we'd say "somethin ain't right." I'd like to see a pic of the top of #1 piston. the connecting rod, the combustion chamber and cylinder wall on #1. Those pics would tell us a lot. There also may be less obvious damage to internals for other cylinders.

I still think that running a full 3 inch TBE on stock tune is recipie for huge boost spikes, for possible waste gate maxing out and overboost or boost creep to dangerous levels, and for running out of fuel pump head room. HT tune would help control the spikes but if that exhaust is too free flowing and the wastegate maxes out or if the fuel pressure drops and things lean out, it is zoom, zoom, boom.

Gen 2 engine does have a lot of subtle differences, including a totally different MAF housing diameter and the tune is clearly different. Try to find a Gen 1, or just use the block, head and maybe the manifolds, etc. no complete drop in possibilities, IMHO.
