2010 SPEED3 burnt clutch?????!!!!!!

Ya, sounds like it just let go and that was that. Definately a factory issue and one maybe Mazda and the dealership are aware of...?

I would imagine if he burnt it up there would be massive amounts of smoke coming from the engine. If you would have been riding the clutch then you would have smelled it and saw it. Everyone remember thats what the dead pedal is for, your left freaking foot. I say either the dealership beat the s*** out of it or its a factory defect. Be nice to the dealership but if they pull that s*** on you about charging $2000 in your face throw that ******* manual down on the counter and tell em to read it. Threaten them with the BBB or go to another dealer dude.

Now the clutch in the '10 Speed3 is a bit tricky but I digress one more time keep your foot off of it when you are not shifting.

Good luck dude and be nice to your Speed.

What aggravates me about this issue is this: Even if this failure is purely the fault of the parts involved (failed pressure plate, etc), it causes the same type of damage that clutch abuse does. There will be noticable burning / scorching / blueing on the parts, which will automatically be blamed on the driver. They'll probably note this on the car's file and you'll likely have trouble going forward getting any warranty work done on the powertrain.

Hopefully, this was caused by something inside actually coming unbolted, and they're smart enough to figure out that THAT'S what caused all the burning of the parts involved.

+1 I can only think they will be able to tell what let go or what was "smoked" by user error. I really have a hard time beleiving that the OP burnt this himself with plenty of manual trans experience under his belt...

Yeah I think he will get all fixed, but I can't see why they would throw him the shaft like that. It sounds like the clutch thing will be a Technical Service Bulletin soon.

LOL... 42 miles on it. You would have to work REALLY hard to do that on your own. I think he will be fine. I certainly hope it is a 1 off though. Would hate to think it becomes a TSB or a recall.

can't be done in 42 miles, I mean u would have to purposely try it by holding on a hill for ages or something.

Faulty clutch, except nothing else or tell them to take the car back and withhold payments.

Dealer s*** like this upsets me

Jeez

Guys take a chill pill. Obviously, unless the OP went nuts on the clutch in 42 miles, this was a defect from the factory and will be covered under warranty. It's unfortunate but it happens. The good thing is that the car is new and they'll be replacing the bad pieces with brand new pieces. Let's not get our skirts in a bunch. :-)

My friend down shifted an rx 8 from 3rd to 1st and blew the clutch, and this was a brand new car less than 100miles.

Thats what I am saying...

it is not possible to burn clutch up in 17 miles u would have to do it on purpose if even then it was something not right from factory no other reason it would have went out if they say different u should go to another dealer that has some knowledge of a manual tranny because its obvious who u spoke to doesn't

I hope mmm1988 gets it all fixed though. I have been through that with my GTI. It burned oil and I could not get them to do anything done about it. It was not my fault. They claimed it was normal for the GTI to use some oil. but a quart every 2500 miles was unacceptable to me. I wish the dude the best and dont want to see him get taken advantage of over some dealer sticking it to him.

How the hell did he do that? I'm sorry, that's not something you do by mistake, even if you're a new manual driver. You can't easily do that and Mazda's manual transmissions won't shift into first gear easily at all if you're doing more than like 10mph. When I first started with my car I accidentally went from 5th to 1st (accidentally skipped 3rd, not used to the gears being so close together) and when I started letting the clutch out I heard a NASTY noise and pushed the clutch back in - problem solved. Either your friend is not very smart or I'm calling shens.

Anyway, I think everyone needs to read through the actual thread... THE DEALER IS FIXING IT FOR FREE. They're not giving him the shaft, they're not screwing him over... They're being better about it than most dealers would, in my opinion.

yeah today hes getting the car back so hell be posting soon about it and see what was wrong with the car

ok so after long negotiations with the dealer im switching to mazda 3 gt cause my car is still not ready and i do need a car, its the last time in my life i ever deal with mazda. id rather drive a ****** kia. thank you everyone for posting u've been a great help
