2010 Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Challenge

:
2010 Mazda 6s
I will be competing in the Ultimate Track Car Challenge this year. Hopefully I can pick up the high points of Virginia International Raceway quickly and get up to speed. I will be in the Varsity Independent Study Class which is for all cars that were prepped by private individuals and have "five or more cylinders, three or more rotors, or anything with forced induction." Obviously I will be way outgunned, but hope to have fun and at least be competitive.

The race is on July 23. I'll update with a story and pics here.

Here is a link to FRM's page about the challenge: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/events/UTCC2010/

Best of luck! I'll be pulling for ya :).

Thank you. It's nice to have people rooting for me.

Marlon, great video. Thanks for the link.

My pleasure, it has a lot of good info, especially since Randy was drivng a FWD car, it helped us get decent times.

Billl, we may be heading out to VIR as well. Jim Daniels has offered us some driver coaching. If you need our help let us know.

Pay close attention to that dip at the entry to corner 17. You can carry more speed there than what it looks like. The fast line is to go in hot enough so the car starts to understeer slightly as you turn in and then as the car compresses into the dip it hooks and turns right. It's a little scary, but you just have to trust that it will turn. Make sure you car doesn't do anything crazy under heavy trail-braking. You'll need it for turn 4, Oak Tree, and the left hander at the top of the back straight entering into the roller coaster.

Good luck and have fun.

xelderx - Thanks for the tips.

low_psi - no, I'm just pulling the ballast out of the car. I'm running time trials on Saturday and Sunday so I want to stay basically in Time Trial form.

I'm off on Friday and might head up there to see how things are going. I've got a ton of leftover 2.0L parts I might bring for you if you want them and have room to haul them home.
