200whp+ safely

i cant think of a situation in which you would need to boost in 5th (boom07) .
just dont do it, why would you need to boost after 100mph???? 100+on streets is stupid as hell...i say, not worth reckless driving on my record. my insurance is already too high.

When people boost in 5th gear it's usually because they are on the freeway and want to pass someone without downshifting. I can breath on the gas pedal in 5th gear at 75 mph at hit 3-5 psi.

I dont understand why you cant boost in 5th gear? Is the engine that weak from the factory? Are the internals forged or just cast? What compression are you motors stock?

It's not that you can't boost in 5th, it's just that some people are ignorant enough to do it with excess load. For example, driving at lower speeds with a full car going uphill and mashing the gas, all while still in 5th gear. That my friend is asking for trouble.

The only situation that you would boost in 5th is if you were to redline every other gear up to it.

Search around the forum about the stock rods. They are like toothpicks. Stock CR is 9.1:1, so couple that with a tiny turbo that spools instantly and it can cause problems with too much low-end torque and boost spikes. If you can afford it, most people drop the CR to 8.5-8.7:1 and replace the stock GT25R with a Disco Potato. That's when the fun really begins. Of course, that's also when the pocketbook empties.

All right guys I've got about $1000 saved up, I'm thinking of getting in on the GHL Exhaust group buy, what do you guys think? Or should I spend it on some other parts? I hear that exhaust is way worth the money and with 10% off man I dont think I should pass this up

well i'm still on my quest for 200whp, i've got a GHL turboback thats waiting to be installed this weekend, and i have motor mounts on the way, still need the side inserts though, next up will either be a fmic, dsm afc, or unichip

How realistic is this? I've been considering the FMIC and I've got the Mazdaspeed exhaust already. What else do I need to see close to 200 whp reliably?

dude you'll need a better exhaust than the Mazdaspeed one, basically i'm kind of going off the unichip formula, http://corksport.com/content/00/01/06/61/73/uploaded.files/chart.jpg

basically i think they hit 200whp with just an intake and catback exhaust at 10psi

didn't he say he doesn't want to increase boost though?

and then, 2ndarily, wouldn't someone see better results replacing turbo-axle than cat-back?

(fingers crossed since I am doing just that on Saturday LOL)

yes the catback is not all hthat restrictive. getting rid of the 2 cats and replacing them with 1 high flow cat or none at all will yield the best gains.

From what I've seen, a high flow exhaust/cat setup and the FMIC will usually cause an increase in boost by 1-2 psi. Do I really need to upgrade the fuel system (ie; injectors, pump) with just these two mods? Will I need some kind of fuel/ignition computer with these mods in order to still run safely?

With just the bolt ons you will be fine, you wont need any engine management for the increase in boost. You'll actually be less likely to blow your engine with a better intercooler and exhaust on your car. If you choose to manuelly increase the boost yourself though, then some engine management would be recommended.

the problem is that the unichip gives you a lot of problems when you try to put an upgraded intercooler or a bigger exhaust on it, its tuned for just an intake and cat-back exhaust nothing more, so if you decide to go that route you'd have to have your unichip tuned and that will cost a ton of money

Well i'm finally almost there everyone.... and now i'm trying to get input on my final mod to put me over the top.... EMS & EBC ... vote your opinion here: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123640500&page=3

keep in mind that I will be getting tuned no matter what and my mods at the time of install will be:

GHL Turboback Exhaust
Injen Cai
HiBoost FMIC w/ Greddy Type S
AWR Motor Mounts
Blitz Dual Turbo Timer / Boost Gauge

thanks

Hey, just to make sure...you have changed your spark plugs to a colder plug, right? (poke)

So the big moment is almost here, I purchased my Unichip today, should be here on friday, time to surpass 200whp!!! I am also considering doing the VCTS and porting to my intake manifold while i'm at it, any suggestions??
