2009 OEM GPS/Stereo problem- no audio!

I've got the factory GPS/Stereo/6-CD changer headunit that suddenly stopped putting anything through any of the speakers. Nothing, not even a hum, buzz, or pop when adjusting the volume up or down- they are completely dead. Sound settings are fine. Initially the headunit touchscreen & hard buttons (including steering controls) will respond normally- the GPS seems to function as it should, mode selection, volume up and down appear to work fine, just with no audio with any of the modes.

I say initially, because I can force the headunit to lockup and not respond to either the touchscreen or key presses if I work the volume too fast or too many key combinations. The screen will typically flash, then be unresponsive. Otherwise, if I handle with care, the headunit will function like it should- just without audio to all of the speakers.

Is there a hidden amp fuse or anything else I can check before trying to find another headunit? The passenger-side block does not appear to hold any headunit fuses.

I did 'reset' the audio settings (bal/fad, eq) via the headunit. Has disconnecting the battery helped with other stereo issues?

To followup on my own post, the stereo system began working a week ago with no apparent reason or cause. It's inexplicable, but everything is now working as it should.

that happened to me as well, i just have the regular stereo but it went out then back in the next time i started it. bizarre
