2009 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Revealed

The spy photos were both detailed and plentiful, and today, any remaining mystery about the new Hyundai Genesis luxury sedan's looks can be put to rest. The car was previewed to the media in Korea this week, and the photos released by Hyundai show the Korean-market version of the car au naturale. Note the newly-unveiled winged Genesis emblem on the hood and wheel centers. The US-market cars should sport the familiar stylized "H" instead. Specific technical details are not given save for confirmation that the four-door Lexus-fighter will be offered with a 375 horsepower Tau V8 and a pair of Lambda V6's (3.3L and 3.8L). According to a company spokesman, the most expensive version of Hyundai's new flagship should come at around $40,000 USD depending on equipment (the V6 should sticker under $30K). Koreans will be able to buy the car in January, with US and Chinese sales to follow later in the first half of '08. The car's full dog-and-pony show reveal will take place next month at the Detroit Auto Show, and we'll be there to bring you all the details.

Because we can't get away with paying our workers 2 bucks an hr to keep the cost down!

Really, the Labor Unions have killed our auto makers. The auto makers have to pay the employees way to much and that makes the cost of the cars to high to sell. So to keep the cost down they have to build keep s*** or they wouldn't make a profit.

You do realize that unlike China (which you might be confusing Korea with) there is a minimum wage law and hyundai laborers are unionized and get paid a good salary. Why do you think there are so many labor strikes at Hyundai (there has been one every year for the past 10 years) because the union comes in and does the exact same thing US unions do with the Big 3.

sweet. 375hp? RWD? $40k? doesn't sound like a lexus clone to me...sounds like 3/5 of a lexus. ;)

hyundai's new assembly plant here in the united states builds the Azera and Sonata and they have higher paid and better benefitted workers than any unionized domestic plant in this country.

Hyundai Genesis pricing announced for US

When Hyundai showed of their new flagship model earlier this year in the States, they promised an interior that could match European luxury sedans, driving dynamics worthy of a luxury sedan and pricing that would match entry-level premium models. Today Hyundai has announced their Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for their new Genesis model.

The 290 hp V6 Genesis 3.8 with Aisin six-speed automatic transmission will cost USD 33,000 when it arrives at dealerships this July. The range topping Hyundai Genesis 4.6 with 375 hp 4.6 liter V8 will have an MSRP of just USD 38,000.

Today, were delivering on a key part of that commitment, with a very well-equipped Genesis sedan priced below the most basic Infiniti G35 or BMW 3-Series, said John Krafcik, vice president, product development and strategic planning, Hyundai Motor America. Not exactly the sub 30k price tag as announced in January but the Korean entry level 3.3 liter V6 engine has not made it into the US line-up.

Well, failing dollar doesnt help the pricing either.

If you compare with other cars in the same segment comparably equipped, it is good deal.
If your not brand conscious, want rwd luxury saloon, you WILL save some money here.

Yeah, I've read articles pitching it as the size of a 7-series, the performance of a 5-series, and the price of a 3-series, and from what I've read, they're not too far off. Hyundai's got a potential hit on their hands if people can get over the badge on it.

When I crashed my PT Cruiser into a deer they gave me an '06 Sante-Fe to drive while it was being fixed and I was taken a back, the car felt solid drove smooth and had a powerful engine, the looks are 'okay' I didn't like the two tone and the cabin was 'dated' but as for an crossover SUV it was pretty awesome.

I've had a Chysler, Acura, Audi, and VW.
And right now I have my Mazda and a Volvo, and thee boyfriend has another Volvo and we are about to pick up a Land Rover and sell my 3 and S40 for a C30...
I could pick another car for the same amount or a little more money like a Bimmer or Benz but I like the C30 and to be it's about which car you like most. If I liked a Kia better I would get one.

We don't get cars to show how much money we have we get cars because it's the ones we want and it's the ones that fit our needs. When I bought my 3 I had gone look at BMW's but to me the 3 was just as fun to drive and why spend the money if you don't have to?

Parked next to one the other day (sedan), it looks really nice but huge for my taste.

I was like "I've never seen this Lexus model, Would it be an 09?"... that until I saw the "Genesis" badge.

The good thing is: it does look like a Lexus, the bad thing is: it does look a lot like a Lexus...

we were behind a black limited model the other night....my wife said "that's a hyundia? if you were to debadge it and put a bmw or lexus badge on it I would have never known". the car looked great....good job to the slanted H!

Both Genesis sedan and coupe look to be big hits. Now hyundai, just build a 3 series, C class fighter and you might have a potential customer in me in the future.
