2009 cx--9 GT...replace card fob/key with 2010+ version?

Hi all,

i have the 2009 cx-9 GT with the card version advanced key. It can sometimes be a pain to lug around with the bunch of other home keys/store cards in a keychain. has anyone ever tried to switch it at the dealer for the newer version? Not sure if this is possible ( i dont see why not, it should just be a little programming exercise at the dealer unless the 2 units are complete different).

Also sometimes there is a delay when pressing the door handle buttons to lock/unlock the suv. is this issue still there with the newer one?

Thanks!

To answer your first question - No. The reason is that the newer fob's have a different fcc id# on them, so they are communicating on a different frequency. You would have to replace every advanced keyless sensor on the vehicle, which is like a dozen between inside and out, and possibly modules.

Regarding the delay, usually the fresher the battery the shorter the delay. I recently forgot about this when I would press the button and it would beep like 5 seconds later after I moved around a little. Tried all 3 of my cards and they all did it. Changed batteries and they all worked fine. I had gone about 2.5 years since changing the batteries in my cards.
