Wasn't exactly a protest. They took the top 5 STS cars into inpound to pull the valve covers and his was found to be out of regulation. I believe they also did the same for the top 5 in STS2, along with pulling axles to check for improper differentials. In AS they checked the airboxes, and I think BS (Shawn will have a little better insight on this) had some of the cars take the front passenger wheel of. Some of GP was checked for bore and stroke. They're the kinds of spot-checks that the SCCA things may be out of regulations. Happens all the time in club racing, and apparently @ solo nationals as well.
That one... Any particular reason why? Were they checking the wheels, or something else?
If they told you to drive off a bridge.....
.... sure I always thought it would be fun to drive off a bridge.

Pretty standard thing to have a wheel pulled at a tour or divisionals on this side of the world. Its usually a random group that gets chosen at a tour, bring a jack and jackstand because the group that gets randomly chosen might be yours. Generally, its for competitors to look around and do a bit of self-policing.
At nats most everyone pulls a wheel and a couple random groups get chosen for some more invasive teardowns and thats for tech to do some spot checks. When the stakes are higher....

Yeah, the rumors are flying now. Also alleged in that thread now are titanium retainers. I'm not sure what's true and what's not, and I'll reserve judgement until I talk to Tim or somebody else who was there. There are a lot of people who love and hate Andy--it seems people on the 'love' side are relative newbs who know him from his Miata articles, and the 'hate' are people who have been around a while.
The problem is that it will continue to be rumor because, rumor has it (you see what I did there?) once they found the shims, they stopped inspecting it and DSQd him. So, unless someone gets ahold of that motor for a full tear-down, no one's going to know for sure.
Yeah, if it truly is something he didn't know about, and there was no competitive advantage, I feel bad for the guy. Then again, given the "history" that doesn't seem to be common knowledge (yet) there is certainly room for doubt. Either way, he's made his own bed and he's going to lay in it.

What the hell is the "history" that everyone on both boards keeps referencing. People mention that Hollis was banned for life, I'm assuming for knowingly cheating, but nobody seems to want to actually tell the story.
Well, I obviously wasn't around back whenever it happened, but I'll tell what I was told this year at the Atlanta ProSolo:
Apparently, I believe in the early '90's, Hollis campaigned a Civic in whatever stock class a Civic ran in in those days for the entire season, claiming to have some sort of "towing package" with stiffer springs, and providing Honda documentation to support the existence of said package. At Nationals, he showed up with this car and documentation of the towing package, and got called out by his competitors, and was found to have fabricated the documentation.
Again, I heard this from somebody else, and that person, being younger than me, obviously heard it from somebody else, so the details may be a bit off, but the general idea is there. Basically, he made up a stock package and tried to run it nationally with forged documentation.

I'm still catching up from being out of town for so long. My driving was a little disappointing, but it was to be expected. I hoped that I could jump back into FWD and immediately feel comfortable. I've been driving an AS Corvette and EP Mustang for most of the year. Jason hasn't driven much of his car either and I think it really showed with both of us. It took me a little too long to get the hang of it again. FSP finally got some decent weather this year and it really brought the fast guys to the front of the pack. I pushed a little too hard on my last runs of Day 1 and not hard enough on my last run of Day 2. I was having some issues with the brakes not having a good hard initial bite. That killed my confidence in a few sections. I don't think Jason was feeling it because he left foot brakes. My new FSP car is close to completion so hopefully we will have a better showing next year.
