2008 Mazda5: SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES!!!!

maybe, maybe not.. will hav to see how they set it up.. if the second row has armrests integrated with the doors.. that wont be as bad... have to see what they do... i am also looking to do something with the tailights...

I have enough faith in the aftermarket, in particular Taiwan, that I would believe they would develop a way to get the armrests to us if they do attach to the seats.

hummm...if they are adding an armrest for passenger side, they have to modify the midle storage compartment... would this mean less storage? I hope not. The ideal solution to me would be a larger storage compartment that would also act as armrest for both driver and passenger. That's the solution adopted by many manufacturers (check out the Dodge Caravan or VW Jetta for example).

Maybe just a folding table a la CR-V?

So to keep the discussion in this thread...

Naaaahh!

@ the earlier 2008 Mazda5 thread P2K posted some supposed 2008 pics, but those are not the ones. Those are for the current 2007 Bright Stylish model (Mazda may take some ideas from there though)...

BTW, me likes gunmetal color wheels :D

That being said, I'd still opt for the 4WD if it were available on this continent

Very interesting development. Ive been following the Mazda5 for a few years now but was unhappy about the little things in the US market model, like no armrests, no tray for the sport model, black interiors, bad gas mileage (for a 4 cylinder engine) etc, so I was just hanging onto what I already have and was waiting for Toyota or Honda to come out with something similar (there is similar vehicle called the "Toyota Ace" that is rumored to be produced in 08, for late 08 or for 09?).

But the armrests, 17 wheels, better mileage and sand colored interiors (I hate black interiors) will make the sport or touring, worth looking at. The good part is that all this time Ive been making car payments to myself, putting the money in mutual funds, so that Ive got more than enough to pay cash for it.

One question when ordering a vehicle (Id be wanting a specific color in manual transmission), what type of price should I expect from a dealer above invoice?

OK, another question - what is the mileage for the manual tranmission model using 2008 standards?

Toyota & Honda have comparable people movers overseas - Wish, Stream, and the interesting 3+3 Edix/FR-V. None I've heard are coming to NA just yet.

Above invoice? I got $600 below invoice back in February.

EPA for 2007 5MT is 19/25 by the 2008 method.

They're called "Spec Decks". Basically new car info aimed at sales so they know what the heck they are selling (even though they rarely do). They are in PDF form and are available to all Mazda dealer employees, IF you know where to look. I could post the links but I doubt they'd work (unlike TSBs)..... try this: 2008 Mazda5 spec deck

Benfolio - can you check the Spec Decks for the Mazda3 and Mazda6. Any changes to those care may help indicate what other changes are in line for the Mazda5, either now or very soon.

I still think that ESC will end up on the 2008 model, even if it is not stated yet.

how is 25/35 bad gas mileage for a wedge???

Lets be realistic, the NA Mazda5 will not get 25/35 US mpg. Based on the groups experience 20-28 is much more realistic. Not bad for this type of vehicle but not great either. Most people want more mpg out of a 4 banger, but the Mazda5s' problem is the ultra low final drive ratio. It keeps the motor spinning at a decent rpm on the highway and therefore lowers the hwy mileage.

My '06 Mazda 5 gets 24mpg per tank like clockwork. We fill as soon as the light comes on and it usually takes in the area of 12.2 US. This is all kinds of driving, but we did manage one tankful at 31 on a road trip.

these EPA estimates are "for comparison only" and the numbers are significantly reduced from what the EPA gets in testing. Driving style is going to be a huge influence. 35 mpg is high, I agree, but I don't find it hard to get 30-32 mpg on the highway.

According to "MPG Estimates from Drivers like You" on fueleconomy.gov, the Mazda 5 (2006) gets better real world gas mileage than a 4-cyl. 2WD Rav4 and CR-V. The automatic and manual both average 25.7mpg while the 06 Rav4 and CRV only got 24.6. EPA gives the honda and toyota better ratings. Strange.

35 hwy MPG is a bit optimistic with a 2.3L, no DISI and auto.

JDM Premacy 2WD:

2.3L 4-AT: 11.2 Km/L (US 26 MPG)
2.0L DISI 4-AT: 14 (32.5)
2.0L DISI 5-MT: 15 (34.8)

By comparison JDM Honda Stream (2.0L 5-AT) gets 14.8 Km/L (34.3 MPG)
