2008 Mazda5: SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES!!!!

The US still likes gas guzzling SUVs. We don't even have the Smart Car yet! Mazda can't offer all those options here. They'd have to ship the surplus to Canada to sell! (breakn)

umm... it is, I just saw those death traps on the street the other day

"Who needs this?"
I remember people saying the same about ABS (would you buy a car without ABS today?)
Stability Control has been proven to prevent loss of control in emergency maneuvers. It costs the car manufacturer $300-400 to include it on a vehicle.
There's no reason Not to want every available safety feature in your car. JMO of course.

I would buy one WITHOUT that s***

According to the Mazda Japan site this is listed as a "special version"...I'm wondering if any of these exterior and interior features will be on the 2008 5 once it arrives???

*Note, the dual front armrests, the touch screen navi, black leather, front facia, and guage cluster*

Colors are up:

Yeah it's officially official. Otherwise it would have been labelled "Preliminary Draft". The gear ratios and mileage numbers are the only thing that are "TBA".

Oh, and the Job Date is October 2007. Loooooong wait to see what they're gonna look like.

Benfolio:

Where are you getting this information from? Could you provide the original links to those pics you've provided?

Thanks....

They're called "Spec Decks". Basically new car info aimed at sales so they know what the heck they are selling (even though they rarely do). They are in PDF form and are available to all Mazda dealer employees, IF you know where to look. I could post the links but I doubt they'd work (unlike TSBs)..... try this: 2008 Mazda5 spec deck

Power assist

I have a 2007 "Canadian" Platinum Silver Metallic 5GT with power assist doors.
No one has mentioned this feature which I this is great. No more slammed doors or partially closed doors. Does the US get this feature also??

I'll take ANY feature that prevents slammed doors... UGH, I always see this happen in slow motion and I don't have time to react... my friggen mother-in-law ALWAYS grabs the handle, throws her body weight into it, and SLAMS the door shut... to the point where it bounces back open before it has a chance to latch. I've told her to just *gently* glide it several times before. It happened the other day, and I couldn't take it anymore... I basically chewed her out over it!

But ranting aside, if on a level surface, my doors seem to have just enough umph from gravity to latch themselves shut. I don't think there's any power assist... it's more that there's just enough door slant and it latches very easily.

I thought MZ3 2.3 comes in 5AT only?
The 2.3/4AT combo was offered in previous years, just wanted to show the difference.

I think you mean the spring-loaded sliding doors, which the US models have. True remote power sliding doors and hatch on the 5 are available in Asian markets.

I don't think they are spring loaded, the door actually closes if you just put it close to the latch. On the website the are called easy close sliding doors. I know there has to be some power involved because when we were trying it on the model in the showroom it wouldn't work because the battery was dead. They are not remote, though.

I'm curious when they put new 2.5 engine that is supposed to be in 2009 Mazda 6. Then it would be really tempting to do trade-in.

Finally. I couldn't understand why they added the GT trim line in 2007 and not put in all of the features that the MZ3 GT has. And finally black leather. The 2008 GT is going to be sweet. I wonder if the prices are going to change a bit.

dang, now I'm a bit jealous... but we've already made such great use of the car this year to complain bout getting it. Glad to see Mazda does care about owner feedback. Looks like they didn't hear the complaints about how the interior easily scratches... espec the silver panels.

They are redesigning the dash and center stack, so maybe they'll change the finish as well. Maybe Piano Black like in every other Mazda.... although that scratches easily too.... it's a no win situation! :D

RE: easy close

That sounds interesting as the MZ5 sliding doors are featherweight compared to standard Minivan or Van doors. Oh yes, the "SLAM" factor is high :D. But now, I can leave w/o the feature as long as it does not rack up the car price. $200-$400 US or Canadian less are always welcome ;)

I'm new to the forums, but have been researching the Mazda5 for about a year.

Thanks Benfolio for posting the 2008 MY change info!

My wife and I were seriously considering a 2007, but neither one of us cared for the espresso leather (leather is a 'must have' for her). The armrests, the 2nd row vents, and the 5 speed AT being added for '08 make me 99% sure this is our next automobile. Kudos to Mazda for addressing customer input!

Any educated guesses from you all what the MSRP will now be for the GT with the additions? (I'm eligible for the X-plan pricing via my employer.)

armrests..

i dont know about you guys... but i will be oredering whatever parts are needed to get armrests in my 2006 5, now that they are putting them in the '08 5's... maybe some christmas mods???? mmmmmmmmmmmmm(alright)
