I own a 2007 Mazda5 with a 5 speed manual transmission. I know that this is a Mazda3 thread, but a Mazda5 is nothing more than a tall Mazda3 station wagon.
Both Natural Resources Canada and the US EPA post significantly higher fuel economy figures for 2008 vs 2007. The engine specs, the transmission ratios and the final drive ratio are the same for 2007 and 2008. The EPA changed their testing methodology for 2008 but they converted the previous years' figures so that a comparison can be made against the 2008 figures.
Does anyone know the reason for the improved fuel economy. Is it new mapping for fuel injection and/or ignition timing. If so, can the new map be downloaded by the dealer?
