2007 Ac Compressor Failure

At 39K Just had the AC compressor replaced, (1500.00) snapped belt and completely shutdown the vehicle. After doing some online research this appears to be a major issue with 2007 Model CX7. They completely redisgned the AC system on 2008 models. Then two months later today the belt tensioner broke and the car stalled and was once again un driveable. (only a 500.00 repair)

I think the belt tensioner was incorrectly put back on when the original AC job was done, or that the ac compressor was mis-diagnosed and the origninal problem was the belt tensioner. Either way please chime in with any advice

And for those who had AC problems on the 2007 be sure to file a complaint on the AC compressor with NHTSA, as there are probably almost enough complaints from what I have seen to start a a recall. Here is a link to the website which contains numerous AC problems with 2007 CX7

I was surprised to find any previous postings on this site regarding the AC system

Well, that link is certainly scary when I think about the fact that my wife and daughter are in that car all the time.

A note to those who take their cars to the dealer for oil changes and services: if this happens, call MNAO and ask for help in paying for the repair. Usually they'll help you if you've been "helping them" by servicing your car at the dealer.

A/C problems

We too have had a/c problems. Just seems like living here in FL that the a/c is not string on this car (compared to our protege). Have brought it in 2x to the dealer and both btimes they say mothing wrong. On the last time the salesman said it was the size of the compressor as cars are getting smaller compressors. Are you kidding? Just saw this posting and hoping gets fixed soon. We are about 2 months away from our warranty expiring.

i had my a/c compressor go out awhile ago. i just forgot to post. i was still under warrany, so it was taken care of, but still annoying, to say the least. i think it was around 26,000 miles. i'm at 45k now, not under warranty, but no further issues to report thus far.

Was contacted by the NHTSA investigation dept, they are reviewing the 2007 CX7, if you have had a premature AC compressor failure, and it caused your vehicle to shut down while driving, I would rec. filing a complaint.

I had the same problem around 25 thousand and 37 thousand(the dealership almost didn't cover the 2000 dollar job) sad part is i just went over 47 thousand and i've had the car for 2 years and 2 month.

Me too

Mine went out at 39K...

Luckily, I had it towed to the dealer and a short phone call to Mazda corporate and a very helpful dealership and it was repaired at no cost (other than the tow).

Update:

Went in late on the 4th and ready to pick up by noon on the 5th.

"This is a common failure and we keep several compressors in stock."

Quick question relating to A/C and the CX-7. Is it common for the air to suddenly get hot when you floor the gas? My MS3 doesn't do this but my gf's CX-7 did it all day today during some spirited runs.

Yes...most cars will do this. It shuts off all non-vitals to give you the most power at that second. Out here in Vegas with 110 heat, I've learned to drive without my foot in the floor. Same thing happens on my Impala as well.

It's not a power thing, it's a rev thing.

The clutch will disengage on most V8 powered cars at about 3K revs. On higher spinning motors, it's probably 4K or more.

It occurs to keep revs down on the compressor and thus wear and tear.

While it certainly helps with full throttle power, its not really the reason.

My 08's a/c isn't very cold... I took it to the dealer to have them fix my center vents since they wont stay open and ask about the a/c. They said that it just takes longer to cool the car since it has more cabin space, but uses the same compressor as the smaller cars.

They replaced my center vents and not even 2 weeks later they still wont stay open... I tell ya, these cars are cheap as hell on the inside.

That makes even more sense. Thanks!

Just had mine go at 55K miles.

Car filled with smoke with almost now warning (strange smell for less than 1/2 a mile prior). I thought the car was on fire. Geico paid for the tow to Firestone. Firestone wants almost $1400 to fix... For new AC Compressor/Clutch, Drier/Accumulator + Evacuate and Recharge. Car CAN NOT be driven in the meantime.

Apparently, if this happens you should turn off all climate control/AC and pull over IMMEDIATELY. Your power steering can be knocked out if you keep driving it.

It's being towed to Mazda now and I'm waiting for the verdict on how much of the cost they are going to cover. From reports around the internet, it's a known and rather wide-spread issue with the 2007 models.

I just purchased an 07' and the repair records show that the compressor was replaced at 53K. Just figured I would chime in.

So far it looks like they're going to cover the cost of parts ($1148), but I have to pay for labor ($320) and the tow from Firestone to Mazda ($68). I'm still trying to get them to cover the whole thing and told them at the least I shouldn't have to pay for the tow.

Hopefully I'll have it back tomorrow. Been without it now since Thursday.

CXRabbit, is the compressor failing or the pulley with the clutch is failing? I was thinking if the pulley+clutch is failing to buy the new redesigned pulley and replace the old one before bad things happen. In this connection does anybody know the part number of the new parts?
