2006 Mazda 3's engine goes weak after 120k ???

Hi all, new here. Looking to debunk this "myth" if it is, that my friend told me about.

I asked him for the facts and how does he know whether or not this is true and he doesn't really know as his dad was the one that told him. So I was fueled with curiosity to find an answer to this.

There's a 2006 Mazda3 for sale that's got 127k miles on it, and it's selling for $6900. I'm really interested in buying it, as I've always loved the sleek look of it, but besides the look I don't know much about it. And with my friend telling me that the engine goes "weak" after 120k on a Mazda.. I'm not so sure anymore if it'd be a good investment. But then that's why I'm wondering whether this is even true?

Any Mazda owners, specifically 2006 Mazda3 owners with close to 120k or more mileage that could enlighten me if this is true? Anyone experience engine weakness - drastic maybe? Is this all BS, or is there credibility to my friend's DAD's statement?

Thanks

Zero credibility to that. Engines do lose a bit of their power after time, but that has WAY more to do with how the engine was treated throughout it's life than the number of miles on it. A race engine for example that was run hard all the time will of course show greater power loss over time as the parts wear as compared to an engine that was treated and maintained well.

If it's any testament to Mazdas reliability, I had a 2003 LX 2.0 that had 350,000km on it and still pulled hard all the way to redline.

I have a 2006 Mazda 3 with 118.5k... What luck. First off, that's a terrible deal. I got mine for 7200 at 98k miles. It's really nice too. And as for the power, they're not that fast. So don't expect that. Haha

^ Both statements are true. I gave too much for my 06 hatch, $8800 w/98k. Now she has 125k and pulls just fine for an automatic. Last month it pulled 130hp at the wheels (on a dynojet). Only "mod" is a cold air intake so that added what like 3-5 hp. If you like the car and have the means to get it, do it. Afterall it is a used car, and you never know what you are going to get when you buy used.
