2004 Mazda 6 - Shifting Issues from 3rd to 4th

Three days ago I was on a long road trip and all of the sudden my Mazda 6 started to lose gear when in 4th, almost like it was in neutral and the RPM's would rev up, but it would catch right away and jolt forward as it found the gear again.

I was out of town but took it to a Mazda dealer and had the transmission flushed. This was never done before, but they said this might help, but not gauranteed. $200 later, it still does it. They said that one of the valve bodies needs to be replaced, and it would be probably around $3500 to $4000.

Is this a common issue? I have seen a lot of issues termed shift shock, and has something to do with the software, but the dealership never mentioned this and I never borught it up - I don't think they did any diagnostic checks, they just flushed the transmission and changed the fluid.

Should I take this to a transmission place and have it replaced?
