2004 Mazda 3- Wipers working intermittently/where is motor located?

Tonight on my way home from work (in the rain) I noticed that my windshield wipers in my 2004 Mazda 3 stopped working. This happened in my last car at Christmas time and I just replaced the fuse and everything worked fine and dandy again.

So, I replaced the fuse in my Mazda tonight and heck- what do you know! They worked again! I put everything back together, closed er' up, and tried one last time just to make sure... and sure enough, they didn't work!

After much trial and error, I realized that they are working intermittently... like when I turn my car on and off, sometimes they'll come on (when they are turned on), and sometimes they don't... and if they come on when I turn my car on, if I turn them off, they won't turn back on again until I try another 3 or 4 times turning my car on/off. Any idea why this may be? We are in the middle of a horrible rainfall and I am afraid I won't be able to drive to work in the morning unless I get this fixed!

Also, I tried to locate the windshield wiper motor and cannot... any ideas where it is? I've heard that if I tap on the motor it may click and start working again...

WHAT CAN I DO!??

you need to remove the cowl panel to get to the motor
it is located next to and behind the brake master cylinder

once you removed the cowl panel, take a pic for everyone to see so that it will prove what I said about strut bars being a necessity for these cars
