2003 Protege 2.0 making a turbo sound

Ok so I used some sea foam to clean my engine, and to see if there were any exhaust leaks. After waiting 10-15 min started the car and the white smoke started to come out... so I looked under the car and in the engine bay and did not see any leaks.

I was thinking more of a main transmission bearing. I don't know how a mufler leak could resolt in a loss of significant power.
Maybe cats gone (loss of power) and vibrates that stupid plate (noise).

is it a turkey sound when you shift?

I was pretty sure the turkey sound was only caused by compressor surge on an actual turbo? Correct me if there's something else that can cause it, but this guy's car is NA.

I THINK I may have something new for you guys to check out regarding the loss of power as well as the whistling/whooshing sound.

My fiancee's Mazda6 was experiencing an issue with loss of power and she would tell me from time to time she could hear a PSSSSSSHH sound like a whistling or whooshing noise.

The culprit turned out to be her intake manifold gaskets. I found in her V6 that the 5th cylinder had a leak, I found the leak on her lower intake manifold. I replaced all 12 of her gaskets since the car has 80k miles (6 top and 6 bottom).

I found it because there was a dirt buildup about halfway around where the gasket should seal, which means it was pulling in air from the outside and not sealing.

Maybe if you have the time/resources you can pull off your intake manifold, check your gaskets, etc. How many miles are on your car? Just curious if it's a higher mileage now and you've never changed the gaskets it might be about that time.

lol when i bought my protege it was totally factory. it made a whistle noise from 4K on lol. sounds like a turbo. put on a cold air and 4-1 header and it still makes the noise. ive just learned to accept it. but i did determine it is coming from my factory muffler and tip. haha ive had so many people ask if i put a turbo on my car. i just tell em if i did it wouldnt be the slotege that it is.

ok enough rambling. have someone rev your car and you stand behind it and see if you hear it coming from your exhaust from the rear.

i think that is true i used to hear the same noise on my old motor and i still hear the same s*** in the new engine as well but what i noticed is that the alternator belt is getting ****** up on the side... i dont know if that could be the problem

I doubt mechanical as mine does the same its load dependent, i can cruse at 4-5k and it doesn't do it but if im WOT it will and from what im told buy friends its fairly loud as i drive by from a (75-100 foot distance away from road)

makes me want to go hack off the muffler tip just to see lol i HATE the noise is so poser-ish just like the turbo tip things
