2003 Protege 2.0 making a turbo sound

:
2010 Mazda3 I Sport
I just bought this 2003 mazda protege ES 2.0 autostick and it is making a sound like it has turbo. it only makes the sound under heavy acceleration when shift between the gears. What could be causing this noise? how do i know if i have stock turbo? THANKS

You would know if it had a turbo....

Video of the sound would be best. Probably just the autotragic making some funny whirring noise.

If it is not the stereo picking up whine...

And it is not just a belt squealing...

i would guess the tranny is getting ready to fail. Or a main bearing. Take it to the shop for sure. Too hard to diagnose without hearing it.

1) Open hood. Proceed to 2.
2) Look for turbo. Proceed to 3.
3) Is turbo present? If yes, proceed to 4. If no, proceed to 5.
4) Your car has a turbo
5) Your car does not have a turbo

Uhm, you might not have a turbo Protege if:

* You call your car a slow-te-ge
* You consider a drag race with a Saturn SL-1 a good race
* You don't know what the headlights look like on other cars - only the tail lights!
* You tell your fat friends to find another ride (can't get up the hills)
* You don't ask about techniques for getting 'traction off the line'...
* You don't rev or make eye contact with that driver of the mommy-van at the light next to you...

I have been steady rockin' the P5...

I have to install a new rear hatch (some 'tard (okay, ME) backed into it and crushed it:'(). I bought the hatch from a forum member and just need to install. So when you see me - don' be H8tin' I will fix my hoopty ride! ;)

But now that i am going to give the P5 to my stepson (in Indiana) i plan to get a Lancer Ralliart Sportback FTW! Turbo/all wheel drive/and can still haul kayaks or MTBs with a removable roof rack... (hippy)

If you have turbo and dont know it then, hey lucky you. But I have a autobox trans 2.0 liter 2002 protege. It makes the same whistling (turbo spool sound) under accel. For me it seems to be coming form the passenger side of the engine, the only thing over there really is the FMU(I think....I dunno if FMU's come stock ot not but it looks like one). All in all im really not sure what is making the noise, but you arent alone.

Check the exhaust manifold. A bolt might be sheered. My car was making a similar noise until I found and replaced that...

If you're hearing a "whirring/whooshing/sucking" sound that makes you think of a turbo, I'm going to weigh heavily on exhaust leak, my buddy's 240sx had the same sound but he still has the KA24de engine, no turbo.

Best way for you to tell would be to take some SEAFOAM and use that... if you're noticing that your engine bay is smoking out, and not just your exhaust tips, then you would have a leak of some sort.

Same issue here...

Protege ES-GT 2001 STOCK
The noise seem to start around 4000rpm and goes louder following the rpm...

Have you found out what the noise is. i am still hearing the noise and it driving me crazy. it does it under heavy acceleration at about 3500 - 4000 rpms

Its not the intake manifold because i just got the whole intake manifold replaced from the dealership due to the recall on these cars. I dont see an exhaust leak. what could it be it only does it under heavy acceleration at about 3500-4000 rpms. also my car shifts rough in 2nd and 3rd and my car is automatic. 2.0l 2003 protege
