O'Reilly's auto parts says my 2002 Mazda 626 4 cyl. has a cabin filter. My a/c is blowing out black plastic bits of filter looking stuff. I cannot find where the filter is and new one goes. Anyone know where it is and how to replace it? Thanks!

I took the glove box out and still couldn't see a place for a filter. There is a grid above the blower motor with about 1" x 2" holes in it, but no sign of a filter being there. It would just lay over it if this is where it goes.

I haven't actually had mine apart on my 626, so I can't say. I'm not sure if they're the same between gens, also. I just checked my Haynes manual and didn't see anything about it in the HVAC section.

Actually, on second thought, it looks like this might be the grid. It looks like the filter is inside that. Yours could have disintegrated over the years.

That is the grid I was talking about. It is open completely with no filter like the pic shows. I have never changed it since the car was new. OOPS! I didn't know that the2002 had one. But that must be it!
Thanks so much for the help PrinceValorum!
(I think I'm going to like this website)

No problem, man. Glad to help. The 626 section on here is practically dead, but there's a much more active 626 community on mazda626.net.
