There are turbo kits for Echos. I think it'd be a fun sleeper. Last i read they were getting into the 13's on a stock block.

WTF difference do you think tiptronic makes? Floor a regular automatic, and it will shift at redline! Tap the tiptronic lever at redline, and it's the same damn thing. It's not like Mazda added more gears or spaced the gears closer so it would stay in the power band better...They're both automatics, they both have torque converters. This one just happens to have a placebo of a lever you can bump.

Bottom line, the numbers don't lie. The (it's just a) Civic can get to 60 a full second faster than the p5. If he doesn't grind gears or fall asleep waiting for the "Go" he will walk all over you.

this is quite incorrect...for a 1.7 liter 4 cylinder engine is well engineered...only when you make a comparison to a larger engine will this mistatement be true

now it depends on where in the rev band the torque is made...the civic has a decent amount of torque in the upper rpms b/c it is a better breathing engine...the pr5 engine has decent low end torque but quickly runs out of breath...road racing the civics engine is better designed...from a stop the pr5 has an advantage
 
I don't care what you say it's a 1.7 liter non-vtech he has a fighting chance. And the triptronic is a little different than the regular auto it can't be the same s***.

Tiptronic's the same as the Auto... Only diff is that u can control the shifts... The auto shifts at Redline, tiptronic will do the same... Gear ratios are identical... Tiptronic is just electronically controlled gear shift...

Can anyone who's has a good understanding of the Tiptronic system explain to me how it works? Like how would it be different from just shifting from L to 2 to D, to O/D on the Auto version? I do that from time to time with mine but I hear it's not so great for the transmission... How does the Tiptronic work so that it doesn't have any ill effect on the tranny?

BTW, I ran my friends 99 Civ Si... er, EX for u Americans... I got a good lauch break torqing, but he pulled on me through first gear... We only raced up to 60kph lol cuz we did it in a lot, I never even got out of first gear. I dunno if the 99's are VTEC or not... Btw, u should know that he had AEM cold air intake, and a catback exhaust, he said he was running about 140 - 145ish hp...

On another case, I raced another friends Acura 1.6EL... No competition at all... Well, he had an automatic too... I hate driving auto... I wish my parents could drive stick lol... Actually, my friend really can't drive though... We ended up swiching cars and racing just for the hell of it... I break torqued his 1.6 and I actually got a jump on my Protege from the line, and I was ahead of him all the way to the top of 1st gear... but he was pulling on me the entire time...

Another sad story lol... I raced my friend in his 01' Pathfinder... Yea... we were dead even the 3 times that we ran each other... LOL, i'm just glad my friend is a car enthusiast, he knows the car is hella fast on the turns...

My advice is to run him... after installing an intake and exhaust lol...

also u guys need to compare whp not crank. And honestly i have an auto and i havent had problems with it....but then of course i have done some work... stock it sucked ballz but even with minimum mods i beat 5sp that had less hp. there are alot of factors involved that make it difficult to predict... so go race him and tell us. the 1.6l should rev faster too.
 
Okay, so i'm kinda an ass, but I just find it amusing for anyone with an auto and a 4banger to even be talking about racing. That alone is a HUGE factor. And yes there is alot more to everything than horsepower.. I don't know exact numbers, but I bet that civic is under 2500# and I believe P5's are pushing closer to 2700, When we're dealing with just over a buck for horsepower, it makes a huge difference. P5's look very sporting and fast, but I'm afraid that most of us are going to just have to settle for that.

Basically it seems to be a ncie debate, so go ahead, race away, and please fill us in, I just wouldn't bet the farm on it 'cause I'm pretty sure you'll get beat.

Yea, he has a fighting chance if he distracts the other driver and takes off before the light turns green. Yes it is the same s***, but he can try for all I care, and sorry if I made it sound like you can't beat civics, I was talking about zoom-zoom's auto. Do you have auto?
 
Yeah I have an auto (not by choice) and the old ass one the one with the o/d but my car is not stock.
 
there could also be gearing involved that compensates for any weight or hp differences. But even with an auto i have never met a civic i couldnt handle.... although i know there are some that would eat me alive...
 
hey waz up man, I race him today and all i got to say is zoom-zoom he starter a little faster cause he has a manual.but I starter to catch up and after that he was nothing. man all he can hear was zoom-zoom cause i kick he's ass. we where going about 80 mph and them we stop man civic's are slow man they got nothing.

Should Suger Ray not box because Mike Tyson can knock him out? (chair) It's not like he's talking about racing a V-8 Firebird or anything like that. Everything has it's class. I think it sounds like a good race.
