2001 Transmission Problem Protege 5

Has anyone have a transmission problem on the 2001 Mazda Protege 5.

Only problem I have had is the computer has to relearn the shifting I want when battery is unplugged.

What do you mean that the computer had to relearn the shifting I want when battery is unplugged. You can choose how you want transmission to shift.

NO.....I mean using the throttle a little harder and making it shift higher

As the car gets older will it have any problems with the transmission.

When I take the battery and put a new one in is there anything I have to do for the transmission to learn the shifting

Well we really can't see into the future can we? Most likely the trannys will be as reliable as any automatic transmission. Or at least better than the CD4E.

The tranny will automatically re-learn itself after some driving.

What car used the CD4E.

The reason I asked if the 2001 protege transmission will have trouble in the future is my friend has been having alot of problems with his 1997 Mazda 626 transmission.

CD4E was in the Contour (IIRC), 2nd Gen 2.0 MX-6, 2nd Gen 2.0 626, and the 2nd Gen 2.0 Probe.

CD4E is the transmission, and a bad one at that. Is his 626 a 4 cyl or 6cyl?

Actually V-6 626s/MX-6s and Probe GTs use a Mazda-made transmission, GF-4AEL (4EAT). It's different from the Ford-made CD-4E. The Mazda box is somewhat better but they still are known to fail.
