2001 Antenna question

Anyone know what the deal is with the antenna on the 01 ES sedan model? Is there any way to remove it? I think in the later models they made it so it's retractable but clearly not mine lol. It just sits there ugly and sticking out of the side.

Weird, when I owned my 01 LX 2.0 it retracked...... or did it? Anyways easy to remove but will need to find a way to plug the hole or buy the retractable one if available:

I started to remove it but then I realized it would've left that hole. Hmmm, I think I can live with it for now. A couple bigger issues on my plate than an ugly antenna haha.
