2000 Mazda protege engine swap?

Hey y'all. So, recently purchased a 2000 mazda protege with a 1.8l in it. I want to build it into a sleeper car/dragster... something that's going to be unexpected at the strip. What's an engine yall would recommend? Or should I just rebuild the stock engine to handle boost and NOS?
