1999 LX door handles Swapped for 2000's

Anyone know how to swap out the black (ugly) door handles from a 99 LX protege 4dr for colour matched door handles from a 00 LX? I want to get the side mouldings painted but they won't match my door handles... are they paintable or should i just pickup some silver handles from a 2000 model?

Just take the side mouldings off.

i've done it to my 02, but basically the same car. looks a lot better and cleaner!! anything is paintable, just have to prep it right for the paint to stick to it, so i say take the moldings of and paint the handles. if you want to pickup some newer ones they will interchange with each other. i know because i have 99 door on both front doors and the handles fit.

they look awesome with out them.. also for the door handles, you can order fromt he dealer them in your color already, or get them painted.

as stated above, the door handles should be interchangeable. the side moldings come off fairly easily. take a heat gun/hair drier and warm them up, then slide some dental floss in at the edge, and they will pull right off. be careful not to go too fast, or you'll leave residue that takes a lot of effort to remove..

When I dropped my car off at the body shop it was around 100 degrees. The guy just pulled the small piece of the molding before the front door off while I was standing there, the glue was very soft even after three years.
