Okay my boy has a 94 protege and i was just wondering on what he could do for power?? engine swaps or what not and companies? thank you and sorry for such a noob post...
WRONG. and stupid. and your third gen comments are wrong to. the only things that will work between the 3 is suspension parts he is starting with a stiffer, better, lighter platform than the 3rd gen, with a better motor if he has a bp. pacesetter, genie and more make headers, pacesetter makes exhaust, although custom is cheaper usually, you can make your own cai, although unless you have engine management it doesnt do much, and there is a plethora of suspension parts. if you have the 1.8 dohc they respond VERY well to modssephiroth said:aftermarket parts for 1st generation protege's is nearly non-existiant.
The only thing you can do for performance, is a JDM BP-T engine swap, which runs about $2,000 ( link). The good thing about it, is that it puts out 176HP @ 6,000 rpm. It's a Turbocharged 1.8L iirc. A few companies made exhaust systems for the 1st gen, like Pacesetter. You're not going to find stuff like headders, or SRI/CAI I'm afraid. IMO though, unless you're extremely emotionaly attached to the car, I'd just save it for a used 3rd gen..If money's really tight, a 1.8L ES 1999-2000 3rd gen (which can use any aftermarket part made for the MSP or 2.0L protege) with decent mileage isn't a whole lot more than what the JDM swap would cost.
k.. so I already said he could get an exhaust... I think you just said there's no intake aftermarket parts.. so..except for being wrong on the headders. I don't see how I really missed the ball too much with aftermarket parts not being very avaliable.. suspension parts don't really count imo.... you can get suspsension upgrades for just about any car.Liquid_Ag said:he is starting with a stiffer, better, lighter platform than the 3rd gen, with a better motor if he has a bp. pacesetter, genie and more make headers, pacesetter makes exhaust, although custom is cheaper usually, you can make your own cai, although unless you have engine management it doesnt do much, and there is a plethora of suspension parts. if you have the 1.8 dohc they respond VERY well to mods
wow, that's a pretty stupid comment considering I never said 3rd gen parts would work with the 1st gen...WRONG. and stupid. and your third gen comments are wrong to. the only things that will work between the 3 is suspension parts

a) i didnt say there were no intakes. i said they didnt make many gains unless you had engine management, as we have vane airflow meters as opposed to mafs.sephiroth said:k.. so I already said he could get an exhaust... edit:
wait... this?
I didn't mean to say that he should save the 1st gen car for a 3... but that he should save his money... for a 3rd. wow, you really read stuff for face value..
sorry for the mis-communication. I probaly shouldn't have gone out assuming things either, and since you obvisouly know far more about 1st gen's I apologize for any harsh language.Liquid_Ag said:a) i didnt say there were no intakes. i said they didnt make many gains unless you had engine management, as we have vane airflow meters as opposed to mafs.
b) you said things off of the newer third gens, such as the msp and other 2 liter cars would work with the 1999 es. and by not working between the three, i meant the 1999-2000, msp/mp3 and p5/regular sedan. correct me if im wrong, and i'm not, but that is wrong. the engines are different, the mounts are different, the mounting points are different, everything is different. and turbo parts do NOT work with na parts. 2.0 things WILL work with other 2.0 things, but you cannot throw the header from a 2.0 onto the 1.8. things dont work like that
c) i barely touched the surface. just at protege garage we sell cam gears, management, you can get whole new heads/intake manifolds, turbo kits, everything that is offered for the 3rd gen you can get for the first gen, it is just more expensive.
d) i said that trading his 1st gen for a 3rd gen was stupid, not that you were stupid. the 1st gen is a 100% better car. i own and mod both and the first gen is a more solid, better enginered, better handling, and makes better power, and has more potential.
you're right..I was just having an idiot moment and was looking for something to attack you with, I'm sorry.e) how do suspension mods not count? these cars made their reputations for their handling. unless you boost any of them they dont go that fast. the bp is your best bang for the n/a buck tho.
first gen protege owners and enthusiasts are bigger than fightingzoomtictac said:(omg)
Wow. I have never seen a heated argument on a forum turn into both parties apologizing.
Way to stay mature, and nice job on a first impression! (first)
