1990 Build up, need tips

Just obtained a 1990 mazda miata 1.6L

I'll admit it, my expertise is with newer model Mitsubishi's NOT older model mazda's (not including rotary's)

I've already found a few area's of concern with this model car.

1 crankshaft (i checked it out, no scarring ect.... seems fine)
2 rear end (again it seems fine)

im looking to upgrade this vehicle here's what i mainly want to do

Full suspension upgrades
Moderate tranny/drivetrain build
Moderate Engine build up

Im looking to tubocharge it but not really run over 4psi since this car is so small it shouldnt really need alot of boost.

I know 4psi isnt alot but i will help build base hp with supporting mods.

such as full exhaust, new manifold, intake, head, ignition, hi-flow cat, ect ect ect.........

my question is that if im running very low boost do i need to buy the FM kit or can i just go with the Greddy kit and fab a BOV into it as well.

Also is there going to be any problems with the BOV set up any recommendations.......

Ive checked it out, and im gonna see if i cant buy the kit just without the manifold as seeing the turbo manifold from HKS is alot better.

Any ideas on the BOV guys?

there's a specific forum for the greddy turbo kit for the miata as well. i don't have the link so you'll have to search for it. for all other purposes www.miata.net is your friend

I've found my way to www.15sec.com or some such and that solved my BOV and IC questions.

What i want to know is will the HKS manifold fit ok with the stock greddy kit or will there be fitment issues.

I have the greddy kit, and I use a BOV off of an RX7. The Bosch BOVs are popular. If you do go with Greddy, I recomend you put in the Racing Mazda DP while you're at it. Also, it's not required, but I also recomend at least a Bipes ACU so you can get some low-end back with timing (base kit you just retard timing..).

The stock manifold isn't bad as long as you make the cuts in the flange to prevent cracking.

My buddy did that kit for a bout 1 week and then sold. Not enough of a difference for the cost. Get a 94-95 and throw a real turbo system in it or keep your 90, tune the suspension right, lighten it as much as possible and just have fun with it.

FlynMiata has some good suspension systems (sways, springs, AGX adjustables, rear spring perch) It will truely be a go kart... drive it like that for a while then decide if going a little faster is worth all that money... cause it wont be a HUGE difference with that turbo set up.

If you could find a local "wine and cheese" Miata club and see if someone with that set up will let you ride along. Test driving it might be your best idea. My friend was really disappointed after all that work to onll gain a little power, and he was pushing it to 8 psi
