1972 Datsun 510 (56k best of luck)

What it needs....
New front suspension/steering bushings, and a better motor IMO. SR20DET FO SHO!
240Z struts w coilovers, bigger wheels, slotted cross member.

Oh man I may buy this next week at a steal, and the guy has never even listed it for sale! He wants to sell to me cuz he can come see it! He says he just doesnt drive it anymore. He has owned it since the year I was Born. 1980. So original, so clean

Damn that looks really good. I would jump all over that if I could. If you want I'm in Missouri, but I have a 5 speed and driveshaft sitting around. The guy before me used it paired with a l20 for scca stuff in the area. SR20 isn't a bad motor. I wouldn't do 240z struts though. They are not that good and if I remember correctly the camber is to far off. The best upgrades are either the 280zx struts or 200sx (early 80s V6 stuff), cut the springs off and put coil overs on or the 510 springs.

thanks for the tip, that is just the first strut that came to mind since I have been working on a 71 240 next door lately

And what is the difference between the 280ZX and the 200sx struts? Height wise and so....

What kind of 5 speed?
 
Honestly I'm not sure the different between the struts. I went with 280zx strust since they were easy to get. I hear the 200sx are suppose to be better since they don't add as much positive camber. But caber plates fix that up.

As for the 5 speed. I'm honestly not sure. I know its from a Z, but thats about it. It came with the car and the kid didn't know anything about it except that it was used for a racing Z car.
 
Do you have to cut a hole in the tunnel to accomodate the shifter on this one?

Let me check. I can't remember if the hole was cut bigger. I think it was cut a little bit, but not much. Let me compare the hole in my two door to the stock one in the four door and I can tell you.

Oh I have been in the Datsun Family since birth. My Dad has had 5 510's, and currently has a '71 wagon. We have always had one as long as I have lived.
 
I love the rewinds, I was planning to get a set until I found the mesh wheels. Becareful with the 15x7 0 offset. You may have to flare the car. The pictures a few pages back with the black wheels, those are 15x7 0 offset, You might be able to make it in the rear, but with stock suspension I'm not sure you will make it up front. If you switch to the 280zx struts you will be ok to run 0 offset with out flares.
 
Actually worked on her this weekend. Took one step forward and three lovely steps back. Got to love 35 year old cars that have been sitting for a long time.
 
What were the 3 steps back? I really wanna get out there and check out the car, and we need to work up a deal on the other car. I'm thnking I want it as the new project.
 
Had a 72 back in the mid 70's , same green but with a vinyl roof . It was lowered slightly , cam advanced , header , carb venturi bored over size , Metzlers on Corvair ? rims iirc , that was about it . Used to haul ass . Miss that car , good luck with yours .

So I am picking it up next week. $4500, but I think thats a bargain.

kick ass man. Not a bad deal honestly. Dime prices have started going up. I could probably sell my 2 door right now and make a good profit on it. But I'm not going to. but I do need to sell my four door so my wife can park in the garage. I think I'll work on her tonight.
