is there any rubbing or modifications needed on an mp3 to slap some 18 or 19s on it? I am getting a mazdaspeed so I assume the wheel situation will be identical to that on the mp3s if not the p5s too......

Please post the info on any 18"s or 19"s you may have on your protege and whether they fit perfect or not....

also, the bolt pattern on all proteges is 5/114.3 right?

YES, you got the bolt pattern right...and there are quite a few guys running 18's around the board....not many...but a few....if you REALLY want the low down on a specific wheel get ahold of Richie (ARD MP5) he has a suspension/wheel/tire shop and KNOWS what will work and won't. not to mention...he can get you a good deal on just about anything you could want.

If you go with 19's i'll personally come drop kick you.

Stick with 17's. 19's (or even 18's) will KILL your accelleration. If you went from 17's to an average set of 19's, your 1/4 mile time would suffer .2 to .3 seconds. That's a lot.

ut-oh.....the MS comes with 17"s and I have some 17" SSR Integrals right now on my 6 so I was really lookin forward to movin on up, maybe I will have to swap to 17"s if i go to the track....

On your 6? As in 626?

In general, the bigger rims are worse anyway for just cruising. Besides, you'll get into races around town too, wont ya? If you MUST go bigger, go with an 18. But I'm sticking with 17's. They look fine, and go faster.

Haha, but not everyone is looking just for "Go" remember....or is that what your blue underbody neons do? :p

I say if you want the rims that you should talk to Rishie(sp) and get some input from him...I have to admit that I find tires with offsets/sizes and all that junk are one of the most confusing things to figure out.

Just here to say that you guys scream way too much about 17 and 18's being heavy and slowing you down. Come on get real. I have held 18 with tires that weighed less than some stock 16" or even 15" wheels and tires. Not necessarily on the p5 but many other cars. i used to have a VW Corrado that won several national car shows and it had 18's on it. 18 Kinesis K28's to be exact. Every single place I called told me that I couldn't fit 18's on my car. Well screw that cause Not only did I have 18's but It was lowered a little over an inch. True that rotating mass weight on the wheel is a factor but not as big of a deal as you guys are making out of it. Just remember that there are literally thousands of wheels out there and you can't lump them all into one category light or heavy. Hell if my p5 wasn't a daily driver I would probably have 19's on it. Oh well just my .02

Very good point FunWagon. The stock Racing Harts are actually quite heavy for 17's....I'm sure I could find 18's or 19's even that are lighter out there and also look good. My goal tho is to eventually replace my 17's with a lighter model to give a little bit of a performance bonus.

ALOHA! Pro5 THat is SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT. Is that your daily driver????? Is it lowered any?????? Mine is the same color as yours and should have the windows done in about a week or so. Anyway Very tight Car.

I was reading somewhere that the weight of the Racing Hart CP-035 was something like 7 lbs. and i'm like....umm....right...uh huh. Can anyone vouch for this?

And what are some 17-19"s that weight less than 16 lbs?

18"s with H&R springs!!!!!!!!!! No rubbing what so ever!!!!!!!!

Thanks funwagon! Yes it is daily driven and I have ground control coilovers. When I drop it low, the rear would rub. But I would drive it around with how it looks in my sig with almost no problem (in the pic it the coilovers are about halfway down) just slight rubbing but if I made it higher I woulden't have a problem. I did sell the rims though! I needed the money to go TURBO!!!;) After I am done with my turbo setup I will go with SSR 18" Type C's. They are pretty light and look good.

I think 19 and 18" wheels look stupid. You should stick with stock rim size or go up to 17's at the most. Big wheels don't look right on normal sized cars. Plus they are no good at the dragstrip...if you are interested in doing that. Too much rotational mass. Messes up your speedometer too...
