18inch RX8 rims on CX-5

Has anyone successfully used 18inch RX8 rim on their CX-5 without issue? I currently own a 2014 GT with the 19inch option and looking for a winter rim option to swap out shortly. The only main difference that I can see is that the RX8 uses a 8.5 inch wide rim vs the CX5 7 inch and the ET is 45 vs 50 on the CX-5. Other than that the center bore and bolt pattern appear to be the same. Would there be an ideal tire size on the 18inch wheel to keep it as close as possible to stock ride circumference?

Thanks!

I'm wondering if having a rims that is 1.5" wider then the factory may have some fitment issues, anyone have any experience in this case?

No Having a 1.5" wider rim will not interfere with anything. It's completely usable. Probably the best choice of tire for that rim is going to be a 245/55R18. There is a 0.2mm difference in overall diameter with the 18" tire size. you could also use a 225/60R18 on that rim but I would opt for the larger tire to better fit the wider rim

Be aware that wider treads are heavier where it matters most (farthest from the axle). As the tread gets wider your car will feel progressively more sluggish off the line and will hydroplane at progressively slower speeds. Vehicles with wider tires will be the first ones to spin out as puddles develop on the highway during heavy rain. You can avoid this by slowing down until you are going slower than everyone else but this is far from ideal because then cars are rushing by you and pelting your vehicle with big splashes of water as they pass.

Highway spinouts during rainstorms are not pretty.

They're actually 18x8 +50, that means +1" in width and -5 in offset (iirc CX-5 wheels are +55). The rare BBS forged R3 wheels are 19x8 +50.
