17psi till 7k + exhaust cutout + AEM cold air here is what you can race!!!

Everyone has their own decision on parts, but here is what we can not deny.....

The absolute goal on a turbocharged vehicle is to spool the turbo as quickly as possible while having a broad power band....

While "back pressure" is important on a naturally aspirated vehicle, it is the last thing you would want on a turbocharged vehicle....

To spool the turbocharger the fastest, an open downpipe is ideal, it will spool faster and make more power every time...

This is because "back pressure" acts as resistance to the turbocharger, requiring a high engine load to spool the turbo...

A cutout that opens under boost pressure is less than ideal, because there is still the OEM resistance until you can get the turbo to spool...

I can guarantee 100% EVERYTIME, a car with an open exhaust (i.e. a cutout in or after the DP) will make more power and spool earlier than a car with this "Boost Cutout".... EVERYTIME...

Now don't get me wrong, on a NA car, it will help get the car out of the hole.... but on a turbocharged vehicle this is less than ideal...

If any of this information seem "weird" to you... read Corky Bell's book to get a proper and technical understanding of how the turbocharger actually works...

Also, not sure if this particular cutout can be held open, but if so get the car to a dyno and look at the difference for allowing it to open under boost and to keep it open.... with an open cutout watch that TQ curve :)

OK I'm going to say this one last time to people that are making the comments that the two cutouts will show a difference.
The difference will only show below 5PSI in 1st gear....
From that point forward you will be above 5 PSI and they will be the same in every aspect.

Now how long are you below 5PSI in 1st gear in a hard launch?
Hmm about 1/2 a second? Another 1 second or so to get through the 60'.
So the bost controlled cutout will make a difference by probably .1 second or less in the first 60'.
Now if I can find a two-step rev limiter I'll have boost off the line....

Just a thought
Mike

I understand your point, but just keep in mind you are assuming that is a race starting from a dead stop...

Ahh I understand, then every roll race you do is planned with 3 honks or do you have the time to hold down a button to open your electric cutouts?

Please watch this video and note two things, full close to full open time and the exhaust leak when closed.

I'm not saying that e-cutouts are BAD, I'm saying that the VES system works BETTER for boosted applications.

Water is a byproduct of combustion. Normally the headers are hot enough to burn it off but on initial startup all cars have this. Due to no cats and straight from the headers you will see this much better. On cars with cats and mufflers it collects there until they heat up enough to burn it off.

A large portion of the by product of combustion in the gasoline engine
is H2O (water) vapor. When the exhaust system is cool the water vapor
may condense and form water that drips out of the tail pipe. This is
normal for a properly tuned engine. However, if you continue to have
water pouring out of the tail pipe after the exhaust system has warmed
up there may be some sort of problem. Either the exhaust is not getting
hot enough to keep the water vapor from condensing, or there is too much
water. In the latter case it may be that engine coolant is being passed
through to the exhaust by some sort of internal leak.

Cruizing next to P5Freak on the Highway and she is quite, untill you hear pisssst from the BOV lol, when at the track shes growling with the best of them.

P5Freak what are your next plans on Go Fast parts?

downpipe , front mount and as we all waiting for the famous chip!!

Yeah I bet you didnt expect it would go so far (And keep going)

For me every new part I get put in makes me eager for more, its like when I got my first Tattoo, every one makes you want more.

I am brining this thread back from the dead.

I am not going to comment which e-cutout is best for the speed6...

I ran the qtp e-cutout on my p5 back in the day. I had a t3 custom setup..w/ mpi tuner..fmic...ic n20 sprayer cooler kit..and much much more... The benefits of the e-cutout were great..being able to go from basically stock exhaust to 3" exhaust/open downpipe was great. And yes...on occasion e-cut out did leak a little bit. And it did take couple moments for it to open up.. The benefits off the line were real..turbo spooled right off line (i could literally hear the turbo spool up)..but with the costs of lots more wheel hop (no lsd :()..but than again it was FWD..now i have AWD and plan on doing this upgrade in the near future. Another pitfall was that it's really hard to mount..for clearance issues..

One thing i wanted to mention..when runnign the e-cuout..on the p5..i noticed boost spikes..so just a friendly warning to anyone thinkink about this upgrade!

for people who already have e-cutout installed..are you experiencing boost spikes?

good to see you back in the game..after your P5
