17in Wheels Anyone?

I feel weird saying this. I'm considering 17in wheels for my 2. Of course, they would have to be lightweight. Tire selection is amazing for 17in. I figure, visually, it won't be stupid because many countries get 17s from the factory. Anyone have 17s? Post up pics and wheels specs if you do.

If it has to be 17, RPF1's get my vote. Lightweight, strong, and closer to 16" in appearance.

I have to admit I keep coming back to this idea myself. On the one hand I do intend to autocross my car. On the other hand, I don't expect to be too serious about it. I'd really like to build my 2 into a nice GT kind of car.

Also, what size tire would folks put on a 17" rim? 205/40? 215/35?

Honestly, I'd bite the bullet and go 215/45. That's a huge size difference and my speedometer will be off by 4mph. 205/40 is way too short of a sidewall and the ride will be crap but it's a lot closer to stock overall diameter.

I'm looking into 17x7.5 in the 30-35 offset range. 215/45R17 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

I remember there was a guy on here who has the Mazdaspeed Miata 17" wheels on his and it looked really good. I believe it was the 2005 year wheels.

Thanks for that kamui157.

I'm trying to decide between a BBS style flat faced wheel or something like a Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2. I like the Pro Race 3 as well.

I am running an icw racing 209mb, it is 17x7.5 with a 205/40/17 stock suspension. I think a 205/45 or a 215/40 would be more rubber, and still fit fine, at least on stock suspension. Unfortunately im at almost 22lbs a wheel. im going back down to 15's on next wheel, and going with 15x8-15/9.

It's not weird. I started off with 17's. They fit just fine and depending on the wheel, look good.
