16.5 CX-5 With Driver Seat Memory in Canada

All:

Got a Mazda drum-up-business email yesterday containing a link to the CX-5 16.5 specs. The GT will feature two setting memory for the driver's seat. Sure, there are other minor changes but this is the only one I wrote to Mazda requesting. It is the only niggle I have with my 2012 build; having the in 13.5 years before it with lived a Volvo S70 with the convenience of memory in a one-car two-driver family. I tend to keep my vehicles for a decade or so, but this may cause me to trade in the current CX-5 waaay early.

Would you please provide the link? The specs in Mazda's US website still doesn't list memory seat feature for 2016.5 CX-5 GT.

Actually in May kids_dad had said he spotted 2016.5 CX-5 GT having memory driver seat with 2 memory settings and 6-way power passenger seat in California. I'm glad Mazda finally listened and this is good for a one-car with two-driver family. I don't expect the memory feature in CX-5 could save steering wheel, headrest, and seatbelt height positions like some others do, but I do wish it at least includes outside rearview mirrors' positions as they're already motorized.

Wow...check the built date of your friends 2016 CX5 ..GT built after April 1st is 2016.5 and has standard equipment Memory Driver Seat with 2 memory settings and 6-way power passenger seat.
Here you go!!!!

No more 8-way seat on the GT?
Good question! Although we do have 8-way adjustment for power driver seat without memory feature on CX-5 GT up to early 2016.5 MY, but Mazda may have secretly eliminated the front-height adjustment on seat bottom by offering memory feature like new CX-9 even though the specs for new 2016 CX-9 still says "8-way"! But I really hope Mazda didn't do this.

For AU/NZ top trim CX5, the memory seat has always been 8-way. I would be surprised if Mazda deliberately dumb down for the US market as it is more hassle than it is worth to dumb down. Having said that Mazda is competing with entry level premium in the AU/NZ market as compared to only competing with the mid range market in the US so may be Mazda US did dumb it down.

Wonder what kind of "upgraded engine" Canadians get for 2016.5 CX-5? Unlimited mileage warranty is nice!

So according to the Canadian CX-5 specs, it does mean Mazda added memory feature on power driver seat but eliminated seat bottom tilting feature and now it's a 6-way power driver seat! Not good! "Because driving matters.."

My 2010 Mazda6 GT had the seat memory feature, and now that I've had a vehicle with it, I miss it in my CX-5. A small thing as others have noted, but useful when you need it (after the car wash attendant changes your seat adjustment or even when that occurs at one's Mazda dealer during servicing (sssh)....

I wonder if this could be retro-fitted?

Even in US market in compact CUV segment, almost every competitor such as Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4 has 8-way power driver seat with memory feature...

I'm wondering about the same thing. I used to have this feature(and others) in my ex Jaguar and I miss it as well.

Retro-fitting the seat memory feature is not as easy as say paddle shifter, not to mention it'd be costly. You need every adjusting motor replaced with stepper motor so that each adjustment position can be "memorized". You need additional software module to control and execute this memory feature, and the key fobs have to be programmed into the memory function so that each key fob dedicated to each memorized position mapped to these two seat memory buttons.

The same thing happened on new 2nd-gen CX-9 which actually features 6-way power seat with lumbar and memory, even though the previous-gen CX-9 has 8-way with lumbar and memory. It's definitely NOT because Mazda hasn't had this 8-way memory function ready as old CX-9 and Mazda6 have it. It's the Mazda way trying to save some money.

Ah, and here I thought it was just a seat module to be added (besides the control buttons)......

This is my 4th Mazda, and I'm always amused at some of their trimline/model choices of features included and not included....

Upgraded engine? Really?

I think they must be talking about the 2.5L being standard on the Sport automatic model instead of the 2.0
So 2016 CX-5 Sport in Canada had automatic on 2.0L? But it sounds like an engine has been updated, not just a configuration change. ;)
