15-yr-old driver, in Lawrenceville crash, charged with vehicular homicide

15 years old, WTF? How does he have a car?

Raise the driving age, there will be less dumb kids racing around.

(uhm)

Uh, what? He wasn't old enough to drive, he was driving illegally. If the driving age were higher, how exactly would that have helped? He was driving underage whether the correct age was 16 or 61.

...But generally, I suppose that a higher driving age would put less dumb kids behind the wheel.

i thought you couldn't have any passengers in the car with u until you were 16, and at 16, you could only have like 1 passenger max? i guess they ignored that, and i wonder if they will be charged for it. i would charge them because they thought it was kool. jail must be kool too.

^kind of irrelevant, considering he wasn't supposed to be driving at all!

those kind of people piss me off. they don't realize the consequences of their actions till it's too late.(rant)

reminds me of the very first date my little sister went on, and that kid was lucky i wasn't home to see him drop her off afterwards. the punk was racing his buddy down the street with MY little sister in the car. i'm just glad they didn't get hurt, and that she's smart enough to not go out with that kid again.

at 15 you get your learners permit when you drive you have to have a licensed driver over 21. i'm not sure about passengers though. at sixteen you can get your class d license, no driving after midnight, and only immediate family. i guess you can have adult in the car with you though. not really sure what all has changed, in 4 years though.

also, in your first 6 months of a class d license, you can't have any non-family passengers but after, you are limited to three non-family passengers

but that's besides the point, cause he didnt even have the license

does anyone know what time of day this happened?

I think the article said it was just before dusk - so probably 6 or 7 p.m.?

Fingerprint scanners in cars would be nice.
Even though Sonny Perdue upped the driving age for kids, these kinds of acts will still occur if the keys are swiped.

(Instead of it being you get your driving permit at the age of 15 and your license at 16, you get your permit at 16 and your license at 17.)

I also believe strongly in making an autocross type driving school mandatory instead of raising the age limit... but that may not be financially possible. I swear time and time again that I would not have my car if I hadn't raced autox before due to crappy Atlanta driver's. The closest moment I had ever had to being in a wreck occurred last week on I75S. Some b____ on a cell phone decided to switch into my lane while we were right next to each other doing 70-75mph. She didn't signal or even look out her damn window to see me. She turned into my lane and I yanked the steering wheel as fast as possible and counter-steered. Both cars were within 3 inches of hitting and they were parallel (but my rear end slid out more) when turning. I generally try to avoid the drivers that obviously look like a hazard and I never coast in anyone's blindspot. Autox is one thing but sliding on the highway with medium traffic definitely got my heart thumping.

jersey used to be like this. I got my learners permit at 16 and then got my liscense at 17...oddly enough i hopped in the car for the first time to take my 6 hour driving course and the guy thought i had been driving cars for a while. To his suprise that was the first time i had ever been behind the wheel of a car, and to everybody elses suprise i had no interest in cars at all let alone working on them lol.

They did change the law though the year after i got my liscense. 16 you get your permit, 17 you get a restricted liscnese (cerfew and only one non family passenger), 18 you get a full liscnese

Man, what a shame. I haven't read any local papers or anything, but I can believe this 110%, especially it happening in my city. I usually don't go on lawrenceville highway, but around 6-7pm here, you have to watch out with everyone on the road, it's way hectic at times.

The kid should get charged to the max for this one.

Lawrenceville Hwy is notorious for accidents, especially at Sugarloaf and L'ville Suwanee. I have a house about 2 miles from Sugarloaf. There were accidents almost daily. serious ones at least twice a week. It's a great drag strip, and a lot of people use it as such, especially when they think not very many people are on the road (sunday nights especially). I hope that boy is tried as an adult, and his parents need some harsh punishment also.

Edit: No, ATL Dragway in Commerce Georgia is a great drag strip. L'ville Hwy is a strip of road that is great for going fast and acting stupid on.

Slayed.

thanks babe. I didn't mean I would ever use it as such. Many kids do though. I'm not stupid enough to go over the speed limit. You know those L'ville cops...

You're so mean to me...(sad2)

I drive this road everyday, and I see the skid marks. It's right before a sweeping right hand. I can speculate a few things that may have happened:

He was in the left lane (5 lanes with a suicide lane dividing, 55mph posted speed limit). Right before where the skid marks are there is a side street on the right. Maybe he saw a car about to come out, got spooked, hit the brakes, and slide right across the road.

He could have just gotten spooked by the fact that the road was about to curve. I have seen people hit the brakes before the curve and they were only doing 45mph, so if this kid was really moving this could have done it as well.

Another possiblility, there is a traffic light right after the curve. I doubt this is what caused him to loose control, because you have to be looking WAY ahead, and I'm guessing he was looking at his speedo, or the guy he was racing, etc.

I actually see more people going UNDER the speed limit since they don't realize it's 55, but every once in a while you catch someone really moving.
