There was a write up in I think SCC (I want to say Dave Coleman wrote it) a while back. I don't remember the conclusion of pulleys on cars. Might be worth trying to find.
And a UDP (underdrive pulley) will be fine on some motors. The Mazda B-series motors have had problems due to them, tearing up oil pumps. As where the Mazda F-series (used for 10 years by Mazda in the MX-6, Probe, and 626) has not shown problems with an UDP.
It's ignorance to say "it is bad, don't do it, it will hurt the motor, etc" Because different engines are affected differently. I've had one on my Mazda K-series (KL_ZE) for a year and a half with no issues. I have never heard of anyone having problems with K-series motors either.
I think you guys should really spend more research time on Probetalk.com or mx6.com everything has been done to these motors.... There's nothing new with them.
The only issue with a UDP on the MSP motor would be the stereo. I called and asked about this though. They said there is NO issue with the stereo in that car. There only would be if you had EVERYTHING going or added amps. They don't reduce the size of the pulley more than 20% so there are not problems with power accessories.
