Man those miles just add up. Anyway, I've got some questions about my 15,000 mile checkup...

1) Is it necessary?

2) If not, what is necessary aside from the oil change, tire rotation, fluid top off, and air filter replacement?

2) The dealership says $189.00 (U.S.). Is that a decent price to make sure it all gets done right?

Honest opinions here...

I think it's good to do the checkup. You can check your car's manual to see what they check/do with the inspection.

189!!!?? Check to see what they do. Doesn't seem like they do a lot, especially for that price.

Anyway...

Look in the manual to see what they actually do. Most of the cost is just from labor and most of the work is just "checking" not actually doing, who knows what they do for those.

well when i hit 15k a copuel weeks ago. . .they told me that i could pretty much do all the maintainace my myself. . .. so i got an SRI in stead of chanign the filter, and rotate the tires. ..and im holding off on the oil change till 16k

I don't think you need it. Even the dealership told me not to get the 30k service, as I already do everything they would do anyway, and its crazy expensive.
This is all they'll do:

rotate tires
change oil
new air filter
loot at it, and say, hmmmm, everything looks ok here!
maybe lube your joints (hehehe)
and then charge you $189.

i got a new motor at my 30k, best maintenence you can get.
Yeah, I get that done every 3,000 miles (thumb)

keeps the car running great!!

Goin in for the 15k on Monday, should be around $40 for the oil change and rotate tires. According to the manual the only thing to do is change oil/filter and check fluid levels and inspect hinges and springs and such. Grady Mazda here in Mobile only charges $19.95 for oil changes, not much more than Wal Mart so I just take it there, plus they'll drive me to work wo I can do it in the week and not have to wait for it.
