i plan on getting new wheels and tires. I checked with the mazda dealership and they said they can't do it because its illegal? is that true? i have changed the gearing and trans in my mustangs many times in the past and had to change speedometer gears to fix my speedo.... this is a first for me.
is there a tool or places anyone can recommend me go to get this done since mazda isnt willing to help me?

just get wheels & tires close to the same circumfrence and don't worry about it

I think "Illegal" isn't the right word, but I understand their concern.

You could, in essence install larger tires, then get it calibrated, then install the normal tires and mess with the odometer over the life of the car...

I don't know how much of a difference you are expecting to see, but each winter, when I put winter tires on, there is a slight difference in the reading of the speedo.

Normally, I check with a GPS and then remember the difference. Eg. I would know that 65 MPH is actually 67...

I don't know what to tell you, you may just have to live with it knowing that it is an electronic system, and not just a manual speedo cable from the transmission

+/- 3% means your car will be going 61.8mph when your speedometer only shows 60mph, or a car will have 306,000 miles on it when the odometer only shows 300,000 miles on it. I wouldn't worry about it.
