12VDC Adapter blocked by cup holder

Okay - spent the past hour searching the forum and couldn't find anything on this. We all know that the 12VDC outlet (cigarette lighter) is blocked when you have a cup in that cup holder. I've been considering hardwiring in a new one somewhere, but really don't want to do that kind of work - it's not hard, but I'm lazy.

Anybody ever find an adapter that can make that useable that just plugs in? I drive a lot for work and generally run a GPS, Cell phone charger and an ipod off of it - which is fine until anyone driving with me wants to put their coffee down.

I don't know what to tell you man, little quirks like that are just inevitable sometimes. I get the same thing all the time, I just tell my passengers to crotch it.

I had same problem as you . I run satelite radio add on , a GPS , and I plug my cell phone in so I need three outlets. I looked on ebay and bought a cig lighter adapter that has two outlets with a 5 ft cord on it and cut the plug off it and wired it to my fuse box. then I mounted it beside my fuse box so now my GPS and satelite radio have a hide away plug that I never have to unplug and all I worry about now is my cell phone but it doesent need to be plugged in all the time.

I feel your pain. Where they stuck that thing is a PITA. I've looked for an adapter but everything i found all stuck out too much and still got in the way of the cup holder. I've decided to add 3 new ones. One in the glove box for my Ipod and two on the center console on either side of the ebrake. Got my parts just haven't had a chance to put them in yet.

What if..................you run a wire down to the back of the console & put one there? (If you don't have or never plan on getting the JDM cupholders that is).

I'm actually thinking about getting the cup holders - that's a nice touch for road trips and my wife was pretty excited about those for long trips (also, we're in Canada, so easy enough to get, I understand - gotta have a chat with my buddy at the dealer).

So, back to plan "A" - hardwire something in - I actually bought the parts the other day when I had my radio out (added a tape deck for my ipod - they're on ebay right now for $20) - but couldn't reach the back of the lighter from there.

I can only imagine that they just weren't thinking about various plug in electronics when they originally designed the location of this plug - I had the exact same problem on my 93 escort wagon.
