....

then of course you need all the turbo shizz but yea, if you wanted to do the bare minimum, then just forged rods, forged pistons, and a gasket set and you would have a almost new engine lol

so is it necessary to hone and/or bore to put in forged internals?

no, rings are the things that go around the pistons to help seal the combustion chamber and scrape excess oil off the cylinder walls
there are normally 3 rings, top ring, bottom ring, and then oil ring (which consists of 2 really thin rings and an expander)

do some research and just read up about engines, there cool things to know about :)

Often engines aren't too worn oblong that the old pistons can be cleaned up and fresh rings installed. I would slightly oversize (bore) with new pistons so the cylinders start out completely round.

The old 2.2l's on 626's and such could get rings and valve stem seals at 200k and run another 200k.

I just hit 200 000km few weeks ago... (cryhard)

Drove my wife's car yesterday morning to fill it up with gas.. I think I've driven it twice in the last 6 months. Noticed it's rolled past 215,000 miles and still has the pep I remembered..

it's weird how some cars can hit record mileage on the original motors and some are on the second or third in some cases...(sadbanana)...i'm at 146k...still going strong! although i must admit, with the wear and tear my p5 gets it's starting to rattle and of course the obligatory rust :(...but i'll drive her till she dies

I hear that. Oleg has 187k on my old P5 and the way he drives it, I am amazed it is still running.
