09 MS3 Prices

I'm thinking about getting a new MS3 again, and I've noticed that there aren't many left in the NorthEast. I want a GT without Nav, and would prefer Black. There's a red one not too far from me, but I don't know if I want the cop attention a red car brings (although the color is def cool and exciting!).

What should I expect to pay for an 09 GT without nav? I would think the dealers want to get rid of them before the 2010 model comes out in the fall, but then again they don't have many left out here (esp. the GT's), so I'm not sure they're looking to cut any deals right now. Anyone had a recent buying experience in a similar situation?

i got the GT down to close to 23k but went for Sport instead. without Nav you can knock off about $2k.

didnt know GT can come without the Nav...

Yes you can get the GT without nav. I too went for the sport but minus nav would be the good way to go. I dont know if too many dealers will have spectacular deals on the MS3's.

They're running out in the NE? Thats news to me...maybe in your specific area? But I just checked baltimore, DC, boston, philly, pittsburg this weekend and htere were plenty of speed3's out there.

There are few MS3 GT's left at the dealers in New England. Perhaps there are some in Baltimore, DC, Philly, and Pittsburg like you mentioned, but those dealers are pretty far from Boston. I'm not sure negotiating for a car being transported from outside New England would be cheaper than purchasing one in stock here, even if it isn't discounted much.

the difference in msrp from my 08.5 bm gt w/out nav and an 09 with the same options was like $800 last time i looked.

but you kinda have to be wary about dealers trying to get rid of one model to make room for another. there's a lot of ppl who want the next best thing, but then there are a lot of ppl that get a car only after its been out a couple model years. and given that this ms3 first gen has had basically 4 model years (07, 08, 08.5, 09) i think a lot of ppl would get the 09, making them more difficult to bargain with.

but there are really sooooo many factors involved, especially since this is a market where you can bargain with somebody for a product. main discount points will always start with supply and demand, but there are some factors you can use to your advantage. like getting a car at the end of the month because they have to insure every vehicle on the lot, and they usually don't want to start payments on a brand new month. also how well you can bargain (some ppl are just better than others).

Hey guys, I'm just wondering if this is a good deal...

I was offered a 09 MS3 GT (no option) for $23600 OTD (tax included). My counter offer was for $23600 OTD but with the compass/autodim/homelink mirror. The car is brand new but has 286 miles (ouch... lots of test drives).

He replied he can no do that... and he's staying true to his words. It's been about a week and a half. He has emailed but say he still can't do that.

What do you guys think? Should I just pay the extra 200 and get the car with auto dim/homelink mirror for $23800 OTD? Which before tax should be around 22350...

I'm located in Houston TX if that is any help.

286 miles is NOT new thats a used vehicle...you've already missed the most crucial part of break in...but I guess the good news is it was probably driven fairly hard (a good thing at break in IMO)

Sadly that's not how the dealer sees it. Any vehicle that has never been titled can be sold as new. I'm guessing this one has seen MANY test drives... and they do drive it pretty hard. Driving it hard is a good break in method? I have always thought that the proper break-in technique is to baby it but fluctuate the RPM.

The two MS3 GT around my area both has similar miles on it. The other one has 228 give or take a few miles. Not much I can do... i've been offered a decent price... but i'm still looking around... hopefully a better deal comes up!

Here in Mass, even if the car hasn't been titled, if it has more than 600 miles on it, then it cannot be sold as new. Not saying that's the case for you.

But since it was a dealer *****/demo car for the managers I would to talk them down the price or find another car..

When i was looking for mine there were only 2 white 09 GT's w/o nav left on the east coast (as they say). They had to drive mine from NJ to long island NY :'( had 87 miles on the clock after i took delivery. Talked them down to 23 and when all was said and done it was 26 out the door

Not getting into the new/used/pre-loved/pre-abused thing... if you thought 23.6k was a good deal & would have taken it at that price with the mirror upgrade, is it really worth dicking around over $200?

Just sayin'.

I know... i'm just waiting from response to any other dealer that might offer a better deal. As it seem so far there are none.

I'm probably just going to get it... might be sometime this week or next week.

Maybe driving it hard is good during break in, maybe not, but my biggest complaint about test drives is they don't give a s*** about it. They will take it out of the lot after its been sitting for weeks/days, and beat the crap out of it before its up to temperature, which is the worst thing you can do, especially before its broken in.

First 50 miles are critical to break in, you dont want to **** the hell out of a car but I'd rather have one ***** its first 50 miles than babied. But ideally you'd have some control by purchasing a lower mileage new vehicle.

A few part throttle runs up to 4000rpm, a few more up to redline while allowing the engine braking to slow the car (in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears) will help the rings seat properly before the window is missed. You miss the window and you could have some compression and minor blow by issues as a result.

I know numerous people that have purchased new cars, everyone that knows anything about cars all say drive it relatively hard in a controlled manner during break in...I've been told this by everyone from mechanics to my father to my grand father. In the old days you didn't want to drive a car hard in break in, but the last 25 years or even 30 years the procedures in building motors have become much better with tighter tolerances. Now if you baby it you could cause issues with rings seating improperly, fairly minor I guess but I'd rather drive moderately hard...

Ironically (or perhaps not) the last car a family member of mine bought new was babied at break in and almost immediately developed ring problems. Another car (owned by my grandparents but driven by my grandpa) same motor had zero issues and was driven harder in its initial break in. Coincidence? Maybe...but maybe not.

Thanks for the responses guys! This really helps.

Like I said I'm still waiting for other dealers to msg me back. If not i'm probably going to take my local one. Lots of miles but oh well. If harder break in is better than babying it... it gives me more peace of mind because I know those dealers nail the hell outta it.

286 miles is not used. Theres more than one way the car can have that many miles.. it could have been transferred from another dealer but even if it wasn't... for test-drives at least at my dealership we are always with the customer and on average most customers don't WOT and if they do it's only once maybe twice but by that time it's plenty warmed up.

Not only that but if that car has been there for 6+ months that's not bad mileage at all..much better driven than not at all!! I see some cars sit on the lot for months..the rotors warp, the tires cup, and it's better for any engine to be run slightly hard than not driven.

I'd say take it. If you were to ask for them to get you a new one they'd have to find one from another dealer and who knows how many miles that one would have by the time it got there. Good luck!

True... but i'm currently talking to a dealer in Florida...

They offered 21515... which is about 700 dollar cheaper than what I was offered locally but then the transportation cost is about 700 dollar as well so it's not really worth it. Even though it only has 39 miles i believe...

I mean, maybe most customers don't go WOT, either cause theyre scared or because they know what theyre doing, but dealers are pretty unknowledgable when it comes to these cars. When I went to test drive, the dealer got the keys, we got in at the back of the lot, drove to the street (500 feet driveway) and as soon as we were out he slammed it...theyre just not sure what they have beneath their feet and they take advantage of any time they get to drive one.
