08 WRX or 07 Mazda Speed 6

It all depends on what kind of car you want. The MS6 is a mid-size sedan where as the REX is closer to sport compact. In terms of looks the MS6 has it beat by a mile and I think you'll see that both car performance will be very similar. The MS6 is more of a sleeper with no crazy wings or scoops although it is heavier. I don't know where you've read that the MS6 "breaks down" more. The only real issue with the MS6 is the smoking issue from the tailpipe. I don't think it's as much of a problem with the 2007 model though. People usually complain about the smoking issue and clutch engagement with the car. I the MS6 is an awesome touring car and has a very nice ride on the highway. It all depends on your preferance and of course this being a mazda forum we all know what our pick would be (rockon)
I have a 07 Speed6 and owned a prev gen WRX. I prefer the Speed6 hands down. Its a grown-up car compared to the look at me boy racer WRX. The car is quick and its fairly stealthy yet mean looking.
The aftermarket support is nowhere near the WRX but if you look hard enough support is out there.
If you can find a leftover new one on the dealer lot go for it...

speed6, limited in production, rarely seen... wrx, 50x more you see on the road than speed6... speed6, way more luxurious options than wrx, and it's faster if you drive it right, oh wait the title says "08" wrx... did i mention how ugly the new sedans are, ewwww the speed6 is way more beautiful

I guess I would be a great person to post on this thread considering I previously owned an 06 wrx and As of January I have an 07 speed6 sport.
First off I have a real hard time comparing the speed6 to the sti especially because of the price. A new sti will run you about 31k to 33k. That was for an 06/07 model. The 08s are a bit more. Around 34k to 36k w/ all the options. I just picked up my speed6 for 23.5k out the door. So im sorry to say but based on price alone a 10 grand difference is way to big to judge the two. The Wrx would fall into a better comparison based on price. Back in late 05 I picked up my 06 wrx for 25k out the door. Granted it only has about 250hp (was very underestimated by subaru at 230hp) but driving both I can definitely say they are very similar.
Overall I would have to say I like my speed6 more than my old wrx. However I did enjoy the raw feel and modability of the wrx. It felt more like a race car especially with the mods I did (wheels , tbe , cai , sport springs etc). It also seemed that it did get much more attraction compared to the speed6 which in some cases definitely isnt a good thing, ie police but most of the time I did enjoy that. The speed6 is just as fast if not alittle bit faster than the wrx however the handling overpowers it with ease stock for stock. With my modded suspension on the wrx it definitely out handled a stock speed6 but that holds true with any car thats modded. The interior of the wrx is outdone in every way compared to the speed6. There is no comparison between the two. Stock for stock , the bose sound system destroys the 6 speaker 120 watt system in the wrx.
As I stated before there really is no reason to compare the speed6 to the sti. Even the wrx doesnt come close to the sti. Its a total different beast. Id say for the money there really isnt a better car right now that has a good blend of sporty driving / daily driver / practicality.

I have not driven an 08 wrx, i think they are ugly. I prefer the 2002 bug eye model... but like the 2.5 over the 2.0...

You could just test drive both and decide which one you like. Everyone has different tastes, especially in cars. Thats the best answer.
You also have to consider the $$ factor since Mazdaspeed6's often have good deals on them since dealers dont like them rotting on the lot due to lack of interest.

I think that the 2 cars though semi similar in function say things about there owners that are miles apart.
The Speed 6 is a rare beast, Ive seen 3 in real life including mine, the WRX is common if you like being very different then the 6 is your thing. The speed 6 quietly confident, I call it a velvet hammer. The WRX is like the young guy who needs to cut the sleeves of his shirts to show his tattoos it screams out your intentions and makes the police look at you. But like the saying gos "its the shark that you dont see that gets you"
The speed 6 is for guys (or gals) who dont want a boring sedan yet they need one for the other 2 doors and the size it offers. Its for someone who loves the fact that its a direct injection turbo charged intercooled 4 wheel drive 6 speed beast that gos about its business with a very quiet unobserved confidence but if you piss it off it will grab you by the throat and rip your face off.
I just bought my speed 6 but I already have a great story, I took a buddy of mine for a ride (we both own muscle cars as well) and he liked the way the car looked and the noises it made. Then I hammered it and rowed through the gears.....when I was done and stopped at the next light he sat there for a second in stunned silence then he looked at me wide eyed and asked "this is a Mazda?" yes I said...his next question was "where can I get one"

I love the looks of my speed6, but I would vote for the wrx.
I've been on owner of my 2006 speed6 for 1.5 years and put 20,000 miles on her. The reliablity is fine depending on your definition of the word. She has never left me stranded, stalled, or failed to start but the check engine light is a common sight.
I'm not impressed with the Mazda awd system in MN winters even with my blizzaks. The Subaru full time awd is alot easier to predict then our seemingly random application of rwd durring spirited driving in the fluffy stuff.
The Mazda is a very mature vehicle, very few know what they are, most assume fwd slow sedan mazda6 with some badges and wheels. This is fine with me, but might bother others.
Insurance is a wash for me at 26 with a couple tickets.
I hate the current subaru styling except sti (those fenders are awesome) but its not a deal breaker. They are giving increadible rebates in my area right now, wrx sticker of 28k selling for 22k. I'm seriously debating it right now. It's going to either be wrx or 08 accord coupe v6.

I have to say, comparing the 08 WRX to a MS6, the MS6 is definitely the way to go.
If you want a more difficult comparison, get a 02-03 WRX instead, and mod it. I can't stand the look of the new WRX, and the MS6 is a solid car. It's definitely more refined than a WRX, but won't produce the rewards mod for mod that a WRX will.
Both are solid vehicles, but I personally prefer a Mazda to a Subaru anyday, unless it's the first gen STi.

Lol That's awesome and well said...Being an owner of Three mazdas already a protege, 03 4 cyl. 6 and my new 07 speed 6, of course it pushes down on the scales towards MAZDA... But basically If you want best power for your dollar its def. a speed6...personally I don't like all the attention from the Government officials. A wrx, Def. turns the obvious crainiums of the highway patrol and of forms of law inforcement. Bang for buck my friend. Either way you will be satisfied. Not many people understand the true unique qualities and power and luxury of a mazda as opposed to a soob. But hey if you're going for the appearence of a high school/college "Tough guy" the wrx is your choice my friend. But for around 30k the speed 6 owns the wrx. (idhitit)
