A friend called me earlier today about her car making funny noises and a/c not working. She brought it over and I noticed it wasn't idling properly and sounded like it was bogging down. Also the temperature needle was over the H so i scanned it and got P0117. A Google search lead me to this site and found out it's a faulty coolant temperature sensor.

Ran over to auto zone and picked up a new sensor for $25 and had it installed in 15 minutes.

Turned the car on and everything seemed normal. A/c started blowing cold, idling properly and temp gauge in the middle.

I had it idling in front of my house for 10-15 minutes, looked like everything was good and sent her on her way. 10 minutes later and she called me back saying check engine light was back on and a/c no longer cold.

What are the chances I got a bad sensor from auto zone?
