im really stuck right now im gtting a new car this weekend but dont know exactly what to get yet but i kno its between the new 2010 mazdaspeed 3 or an 07 mazdaspeed 6 with 15,000 miles.....somebody help me please....

so either a brand new speed3 or 3 year old speed 6?..interesting...the brand new speed will be around 25ish...and a quick stop at autotrader says 2007 speed6's with 15-20k go for 18000-21000 bucks...Well the 2010 speed3 is a very nice car and if awd is not super important to you then I would choose the speed3..but honestly have you considered thr 1st gen speed 3s??? I personaly think they look nicer and deals can be had on them since the 2010's are out...just a suggestion...IF awd platform car is very important to you..id skip the speed6 and go with a Subaru wrx...but thats just me.

i'd encourage you to make this decision by yourself; you don't want to have a feeling of regret later that you listened to somebody's opinion, which could be totally different from your impressions once you became accustomed to the car. i think the main difference between these cars is the aspect of utility. most people would probably vote for the ms6; it is a well put together, good looking, awd, and rare car. you should also be getting a really nice deal for a lightly used vehicle. to me the '10 ms3 is utterly hideous so the choice would be obvious.

I never buy new, and own an MS6, so you can probably see where this is going...
But, there is no reason not to consider a gen-1 MS3 like zx2 said. The question is can you find one with low miles like the MS6? Also, it is simply my perception, but you are more likely to find a used MS6 that hasn't been beaten on than you are a used MS3. Many of the few speed6's I see on the road are unmodded and driven by people older than me (I'm 43). There's also the rarity factor if that appeals to you.

Thanks for the info guys, Well to me I simply want the quicker car I drive a mazda 3 type s as my first car and I want something faster. I actually checked out 350z's but I just didn't like the clutch and the way they shifted. I'm only 18 so I wanna make the right choice. I really like the speed 6 and I think that's what I'm going to get but my parents are pushing me to get the speed 3 cas they never buy used.....

make sure you do your research before your purchase (rear diff mounts, rear axles etc)

Well like hominemodi said...youll have to make the decision yourself...though since you are on the forums asking questions you obviously want advice..no harm there..couple things strike me here...your parents never buy used?..thats a shame..cause good deals can be had..once you take that brand new shiny car and drive it off the lot..the resale goes down a good amount..you just gotta be smart when you shop for used cars...and if you are..then your basicly letting that first owner take a "hit" on the price he or she paid for it and your getting a great car..specialy say a ms6 with 15k...thats nothing and to me is still brand new..another thing that strikes me is your 18 years old....and maybe a more practical car would be something that doesnt hual ass.. IE-the 350z you drove or the current cars your considering..plus insurance would be alot cheaper..But then again it kinda sounds like your parents are getting you this car? maybe thier paying for the insurance? gosh dam wish I had it that good when I was younger haha..anyways..the speed6 is a great car..and this being a mazda forums youll get alot of praise for it..I prefer the awd system of subaru's myself, But I used to own a suby so im prabaly just a biased bastard lol...Alot of people think the 2010 ms3 is ugly..I think its growing on me..and honestly if you get it in black you cant see that smile..think with nicer wheels and a drop thier actrully pretty nice..and ive test driven one myself..and the suspension treaks that mazda did to it are awesome..traction stock was alot better than my 09 stock and the cornering is very nice too.... I say write a list of cars that you like or think you like and go test drive them..run em on the highway..on the corners and down city streets...then after that compare them to each other and choose...you should alwas know the inside and outside and driving characteristics of the car you decide to buy..so there you have it..thats my last advice..goodluck :)

Well if your parents are buying it, let them decide... new cars are always fun to have. Though I have yet to have one myself, the wife has one but I haven't bought anything new.

I would say Speed6 because even though I have the Speed3, I crave the Speed6 at times.

out of those 2, I'd probably suggest the 2010 Speed 3. There are more options out there, but a friend had a Speed 6 and had nothing but trouble with it (rear diff mount, rear diff, strange vibrations, etc). The drivetrain just doesn't seem too robust for being an AWD turbo car...but I hear a stronger mount solves a lot of that.

Styling: '07 MS6

Price: '07 MS6 (depending on down payment, price difference, and loan rate as used cars typically have higher rates than new)

Warranty: '10 MS3 (unless you can find a MS6 with a 100k warranty)

Also, you may be able to find a new '09 MS3 and get it for a steal. I haven't looked in a while, but that's how I got my new '08.5 at such a low price (~19k new).

09' looks wayyy better too. And I'm sure you can find one thats been sittin at a stealership for a while. I know I've seen a few around here, anyways...

A lot more issues repored with 3's regarding mounts / etc than 6's. I think the 07 speed 6's are much more "reliable" than the 06's. The TSB's should be done so the clutch is good, the turbo shouldn't be a problem, fuel pump tsb . . . I have heard of some axles breaking but thats what happens when you add 100+ hp to a family sports sedan.

As for the OP its all up to you. If more refinement, more quiet, AWD, more space is for you than go for the 6. If more power/weight, attention grabbing, hot hatch is for you than grab the 3.

I had the same debate when I got my 6. I love AWD and the more refined interior look. Not to mention the sleeper status as nobody knows what a speed 6 is. Very rare too. 3's are all over.

I really hesitated between the 2 before buying my MS3...I hate the ms6 clutch, the interior was good enough but the visibility behind was bad.

The MS3 feel faster for sure. THe AWD is fun but the MS3 definitly felt faster and sportier. The ms6 just have a much less sporty feel to it. Stock anyway.

I disagree completely. The number of MS3's produced is FAR greater than the MS6 and it carries a much better reliability rating as the two share a common engine but the MS6 carries far more drivetrain-related failures than the MS3. Holds true for most FWD platforms.

^Yes, but at least it's an 07 not an 06. Took a year to work out a lot of kinks with the speed 6, from what I understand. I've driven a Speed6 and a Speed 3, and honestly could barely tell a difference with acceleration from a pull (although the MS3 is def. quicker). From a stop tho the MS6 seemed to perform much better (obviously due to AWD). And interior and all around styling is not even a comparison, IMO... I would have already convinced my rents to save $5k and get the MS6.

Here's a good question tho... How do insurance rates differ between the two?

I agree coyfish with the sleeper look for the 6..not many people do know..but maybe where you live..but around here there really isnt many speed 3's either..see alot more wrx-sti's..str4's and evos-mustangs than ms3's...but you do see "older" people drive the speed6..people just think its a regular 6..I dont know if im gonna go awd I just like suby and mistubishi cars...I have heard the awd isnt as good from others...BUT I never driven a speed6 before So I cant personaly comment on that aspect. Just alittle sidenote..another car thats kinda sleeper thats awd is the legacy GT...intake-turboback exhaust-tune and your looking at a 300 whp reliable sedan with leather seats like the speed6...and you can find 05-07 Legacy GT's for around 18-22000ish low miles...but yes the speed6 would be nice sleeper "fast" car.
