07 MS3 GT Bose Sub - Direct swap?

I'm considering ways to improve the Bose system, and I'm thinking of replacing the sub with an eD 7Kv.2 in a new box, in the same location as the bose one, and using the same wiring. This would be inexpensive and fun to try, imo. Info on the eD sub can be found at http://www.edesignaudio.com under subwoofers; I'd post a direct link but I'm posting from my playstation 3 as my computer is acting up, and I can't find a way to cut/paste.

The mounting depth and recommended box volume make this seem feasible, and the 7Kv.2 would be a bit underpowered, judging from what I could dig up on the wattage of the bose's sub channel. I've read that the Bose sub runs at 1 ohm, so am I correct in thinking that a dual 2 7Kv.2 could be run in a parallel setup for 1 ohm?

I'm just wondering if anyone thinks it would be worth it, in the end. I don't have much experience in car audio, so feel free to tell me I'm crazy.

How much benefit do you think you will actually see?

I am planning a subwoofer change as well. I have gotten a 200 watt amp that I will put where the current sub is and will put a 10" in the rear cargo area in a sealed enclosure.

I think half measures will not really leave you happy.

I wouldn't run the ed sub off the bose amp. It can hit suprisingly hard when given alot of power but it has a heavier cone/suspension and is probably less efficient than the bose's baby 5 1/4, plus I don't think there's room for a ported box. Running a bigger, less-efficient sub in a less-efficient box at the same low-power level will likely get you less output, although it should play lower. There's no way to adjust the bose sub amp's gain to compensate so you'd end up turning up the bass which would make the door speakers even muddier/boomier.

I'm gonna try this:

Blaupunkt THA555PNP 55W x 4 + 200W x 1 Car Amplifier - (search crutchfield if you want more info.)

Uses all the existing wiring. Just Plug-n-play. I'll let you guys know if its worth it.

Good thoughts here, thanks guys.

Still no copy/paste ability so I'm going to break this into multiple posts.

Agreed, but for the $65 the eD sub costs, if it turns out sounding better, then great - if not, I'm sure I can find a use for it. I think that the eD will be capable of some lower freq's and a new box made of something other than plastic can't hurt.

You've got me 90% convinced not to try this, or at least not to expect any good results from it. All I can think of is that some good sound deadening in the doors would alleviate some of that muddiness. After that, if it sounded like butt, at least I'd only be out $65+ cost of materials, and have some deadening I'd have wanted anyway.

When you mentioned a less efficient box, did you mean a ported one? My replacement box would be sealed - I agree that a ported one probably wouldn't fit.

I plan on deadening a lot of this car, either way.

Thanks for the input.

I meant that a sealed box is less efficient than a ported one (the factory bose is ported). I personally prefer the sound of a sealed box (but to be fair I've never heard a properly sized and tuned ported box in a car). I've also been scratching my head trying to find a budget sub upgrade while I save up for a proper system, tang band makes a neat little 5 1/4 sub

but it's 4 ohms so it would get hardly anything from the bose amp. If you do try the ed sub let us know how it works out.
