07 CX7 DOA Is it timing or another problem?

:
07 Mazda CX7 2.4 ltr Turbo
Our CX7 Turbo was cruising at 75mph when suddenly the tach went up and I had no forward pull. I made sure transmission was not knocked into N and stepped on the gas. Same thing tach went up with no forward pull. After I pulled over, placed transmission in park. Motor was idling as normal for a minimum of 15 minutes. as we sat wondering. Oil is good clean and full, Transmission fluid was great no burnt smell color change Nothing. I Put in gear and nothing. I gave up and shut motor off, as I attempted to restart. All I get is the Starter spinning. No contact with the flywheel can be herd. just spinning noise. Is this something that goes with VVT Timing or could it be a flywheel problem? BTW No warning lights on dash. No loud noise or rumbles. Any help would be great. Owned vehicle for 2 months to the day!

Did you ever find the problem?

I'm thinking it's a cruis control issue, same thing happened to me and it was the cruise control in a Dodge back in 1996.

Peace!:)

Curious as well. Starter not engaging could just be a bad starter. That paired with no forward drive sounds like something in the transmission/engine interface went south.
