06 MS6 3rd gear grind!!

Alright so today I was leaving the store and got on the feder..shifting from 2nd-3rd i missed(Ive never missed gear) heard the nasty grinding noise and wanted to punch someone in the face lol. WELL i tried to correct myself and put in third once more...same thing! So after a few phone calls I took the car over to AAMCO transmissions and had them check it out. The mechanic told me right off the bat that hes sure its the synchro for 3rd. called mazda and they quoted me $180.-- on the synchro. Do yall think there are any other possible problems with this situation, or?

Get a Rear Motor Mount first, I have one on order, Main cause to miss 3rd gear, motor rocks too much

im going through the same thing.. gonna pull the short shift plate off tomorrow and see if that helps. i also have the rear engine mount. ive missed 3rd once while racing.. now it doesnt grind but it just feels like its gonna pop out of gear... im hoping its the shift plate. has anyone else had to replace a synchro?

why would it be the shift plate?

the shift plate does not determin if the rest of the transmission is working properly.

im just trying to eliminate possible problems.. all my gears are hard to get in now but third is the only one that kinda pops back out. since the only shift mod i have is the plate im gonna start with that first.

there is a thread somewhere where they are stating that the shifter has to be adjusted due to the shift plate being a problem.

yeah because the shift plate changes the cables just enough to where first and 2nd are pretty much blocked by the reverse lock pin. adjusting the neutral position of the shifter eliminates that. has nothing to do with syncro's imo.

Alright, well I guess ill be taking the car over to AAMCO monday morning for third gear synchro. I wish we had some upgraded ones or something haha. Apparently AAMCO will have the car done the same day or the following day.

had second and third gear synchros replaced on my car at 29,000 miles and I DONT beat on it.
I was told by the mazda tech that he has seen a lot of them coming in for the same thing.
Luckily mine was still under warranty, but got the same old blah blah blah about voiding my warranty, and I only had visual mods at the time lol.

wow, yeah well i hardly beat on my car and ive never missed gear lol. i took it to mazda and they didnt even wanna look at it. that what took me over to aamco and they quoted me 399.95 for labor plus whatever the cost on the part is. i gotta quote from mazda and they said 108.95 for a synchro and 111.00 for a gear. soo im estimating cost to be <600...hopefully.

sorry to hear that man. I sometimes have a bit of hard shifts in third but im hoping the mounts will help once i have the $ to replace. I put in new syncros In a solara transmission when I was a teen, it was not fun, needless to say i took a lot of pics of that disasembly lol, the up side was i installed a LSD at the same time so it came out of the surgery improved....and hey I had no left over parts so thumbs up!

NIce 6 puck! I would love a aftermarket clutch on my ms6. I had a 6 puck on my S2000, gotta love that snap engage.

@pakman6, did you replace 3 synchros? and about the clutch, i'm looking for an aftermarket clutch that is good for daily driving. FEET FRIENDLY!!!

3rd gear synchro was replaced yes. what are your power goals? 6 puck sprung is not really bad at all.
