06 mazda6 'valet' key questions.

Hello, I am trying to get an autostart put into my car but the dealership only gave me one key for my vehicle. I found a part number online for a regular transponder key (PART#F1Y1-76-2GX) but I want to double check that this is what I need. I was hoping somebody has gone through this before and would help me out. Also, I went to a regular locksmith yesterday and they can give me a set of clone keys for $100. I do need to get an additional set but the dealership is quoting me at $260 PER SET (one for the auto, one for a spare) so I was hoping to cut the expense down some. If anybody could give me some help on this I would greatly appreciate it. Most of the info I found in forums were for other models/years.

You can order duplicate keys from one of the mazda dealer sponsers here for alot less, maybe $25/key based on your vin #, but you will have to have the dealer program the new keys as you need two valid/working to be able to program a 3rd key. IF you have a valet key and a regular key that both work, then you can just order however many additional keys you need and program them. The valet key has the chip in it and you can treat it as the "2nd" working key to allow programming the new keys obtained. There are several how-to's on programming new keys on the web.

I never even got a valet key with my car, only 2 transponder keys???
