Thought about it, and considering going with the megasquirt setup instead of the mp3. few questions though.

1. Im wondering though, if it is capable of doing what a mp3 ecu can, and possibly more?

2. is it difficult to setup for standalone? as in full replacement running everything the stock ecu did.

3. Anyone out there with a basemap i could use? not having much luck in the MS forums

4. How well is the support of distributorless ignition on the protege?

5. possibility of a toggle switch for economy vs power. I want to make one so when Im low on the dinero I just flip the switch and Im locked in economy.

6. Rev Limiters, launch control, vallay (sp?) limiting? are these things possible?

an OK http://www.powersquirt.com/maps.htm base map for fuel and spark, you need a wide band with megasquirt or your crazy....

mega squirt n spark II supports our cam trigger design(our coils have built in ignitors)... similar to 00' Miata, but it says in testing phase still.. I'm waiting for sequential injection board to come out that way I can have factory like starts and good fuel economy when not in boost, someone will have to make custom code for our setup, I was in computer science engineering for 2 years so I'm going to give it a try when it comes out.

Hi, I have MS 1 V3 in my mazdaspeed proteg and I run it in piggyback with the stock ECU.The MS ECU control fuel and timing and all the rest is control by the stock ECU.

1.You have full control on fuel and timing in my opinion it's better
2.Like I said I run the two computer.
3.Have mine but it's for turbo.
4.The megasquirt have built in ignitors and the 2 coil pack on the fs-de also,so the guy where I buy my MS do something in the MS box I dont know what but the only thing I have to do is cut and splice the two wire from the stock ECU to the two coil pack.
5.No need of a switch you can create two fuel map and download the one you want. But I dont think you need two map, tune the low part of the VE table for economy and the higher part for performance so you always have the best of both world.
6. I only use the rev limiter it work well.

Sorry if I make english mistake i'm french-canadian.

1) Of course megasquirt is awsome.

2) You'd have to or your alternator would be frying...

3) Your turbo fuel spark maps I'd assume, if you post any maps include your msQ file so we can see your required fuel, squirts and such.

4) The coils on the FSDE motor have built in ignitors, they put power transistors on your megasquirt for the ignition, we use spark output non inverted, you are correct there is a minor change on the schematic using power transistors to drive coils with built in ignitors, vs. the ford coil packs.

5) Correct fuel economy is low Kpa(high vacuum) values and cruising which you tune yourself, with a wideband.

6) My posts are about sequential injection, of course anyone with a 36-1 crank wheel, FSDE, can run megasquirt easily. I'm taking about using cam and crank sensor for improved accuracy and improved fuel economy and cranking using sequential injection... used to be the GPIO board now there dedicating a new board the sequencer just for this purpose.

2)I run this set-up allthis summer and my alternator is fine the stock ECU continue to control it

That is what I implied... you would have to run the stock ecu or bad things would happen with the alternator, not fun, there are simple circuits to control it though without the stock ecu for those that want plug n play like capabilities, a pulse width modulator generator circuit at 400hz (25nF capacitor to get 400hz on a 555 timer NE555N Fairchild semiconductor) with a voltage variable resistor(resistance increases the closer the voltage gets to 13.8 or whatever you set it at) national semiconductor makes one LM13700.

Just putting the info out there as most megasquiters are more do it yourselfers anyway.
