03 p5 headlight wiring issues

my 03 p5 (salvage title), new to me and the high beams don't work. Looks like i have regular (single) protege headlights installed, and it seems the wiring is messed up because the highs don't work. Is there a thread on switching from P5 to regular Protege headlights? I did some minor wire testing but cant figure it out. Do i need a different harness or something? I drive at night alot in the snow on back roads and need the best headlight i can get. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.........NOOB.

I went thru the same thing, Id be happy to take pix of how i figured out the wiring for you.

It isn't a fuse problem because a separate fuse controls the high & low beam on each side. The wiring diagram shows the Protege has different light connector plugs than those in the Protege 5. I don't know of a thread discussing the conversion. It may not be difficult to change the wiring but it may be easier to find the correct headlights in a salvage yard.

thx TGTT

I would love any help w/pics etc, i thought of getting the right lights but they are bucks! I'm sure i can fix th wiring if i know where to start.

I've seen a few P5s rolling around with sedan headlights and the people driving them totally have no idea that their car is messed up by the dumbass bodyshops!

You could also check to see if the high beam filaments are blown. That is if the wiring is ok and the fuse is good.

If your low beams work the fuses are good, the fuse is common for high and low beams on each side, (left light fuse blown, no hi or lo beams light on left side). You can test the high beam filament with a test lead connected directly to the high beam filament spade from the positive battery post.

Get a Protege/P5 wiring diagram from this link;

Print out the headlight wiring diagram and component pages for the P5 and the Protege. Note they are different if you have day running lights.

With the diagram and parts location sheets you should be able to determine what needs done to get the lights working.

To do the work correctly you may need some pig tails or sub harness wiring from a Protege.
