Yes, it was something riddiculous like $400...but it was stainless steel and included a cat. However, I'd bet you could make something similar out of mild steel for about $200 or less (depending if you have a friend who can weld) without the cat.
Hey, for those of you who have installed headers, what is the diameter of the pipe that connects to the secondary cat? Is it 2.0", 2.25", 2.5" or other?

Here is the link to the original discussion on the downpipe...you have to read into a bit before they start discussing the Wagner pipe (you'll also have some fun reading the flaming between two members regarding illegable dyno charts - not to be missed!)...

Thanks for the reply, Mike. I looked for Traveler (he dropped an "L" ;-) ), but most of his posts deal with a custom "shorty" header he designed. It seems to me he never replaced the stock pre-cat and downpipe. However, he did mention gutting the pre-cat but that still left him with the downpipe...
After many hours of reading on this forum, it seems to me that all can agree that the pre-cat and downpipe combination on the Protege is a serious exhaust bottleneck. While there has been much discussion about headers, I was wondering if anyone has just removed the pre-cat and downpipe and...
What about the HP Racing header? Details can be found here: http://www.nopionline.com/ (See attached picture). You have to look under Mazda > Protege > 2001. For some reason it only shows up under the 2001 model year. It's listed at only $240 USD and is ceramic coated. This header is mentioned...
